I have heard the reasons why many are against this. "Watering down" the breed and increasing the risks for certain genetic disorders, but if someone chooses to buy a Cockapoo or a Poogle or even a Teacup Yorkie, who are we to insult them or put them down. I understand that these are mixed breed "mutts" or are considered a "genetic mutation" (not my words) but these people have the right to get whatever type of dog they want. Just as the rest of us do. I see people all the time where I live mixing wolves with Siberian Huskies or Malamutes. I personally think Huskies are wonderful on their own, but if someone wants a mixed Wolf/Husky dog, that is their choose, not mine. These people love their dogs just like the rest of us who have purebred dogs, and have the right to ask dog advice just like we do, without being insulted and called stupid for getting that type of dog. Why can't people just give them the advice they seek without the criticizing?

I see the reasons for not doing this, but my point is that a person has the right to
1: Decide what kind of dog that they want.
2: Buy a purebreed from a breeder or adopt a mutt or purebreed from a rescue service.
3: If they think that a mix between a Black Labrador and a Siberian Husky called a Siberian Labrador or a Labusky (I made that up people!!! So don't think I am doing that! Never even heard of that.) is beautiful and are prepared to spend $600.00 on that dog, regardless that it is a mutt.
This is their right. They still have the right to come on here and ask questions without being told how stupid they are for geting scammed or how horrible they are by supporting this whole cross breeding scam.

Honestly, people should mind their own business. Unless the person criticizing is paying for the dog, they should shut up. I feel that everyone has the right to have an animal if they want and whatever breed they want. As long as the animal is financially taken care of and loved, it's no one else's business. People act like their opinions are SO important. Fact is, most of the time when an opinion is given it's completely unwarranted.

I agree, it is their choice, just as it is their choice to get a puppy in a pet shop or from a commercial breeder.
It just seems so silly for people to breed mixed breeds on purpose when there are plenty in shelters.
The buyers are lied to about them such as...
1.They won't have health problems. It depends on the breeds mixed, for instance many breeds have HD and a Lab X Poodle will have actually MORE of a chance because the people breeding the mixes don't do any health testing. They also generally are using poor stock because no good breeder wants their dogs to be used to breed crossbreeds, so they can't get good dogs.
2. They won't shed. Please! A Poodle cross has a 50/50 chance of being low shedding. The worst shedder I have seen in 30 years in dogs was a labradoodle, and they were told, of course, that he wouldn't shed.
3. They get the best of both breeds. Again, please! They MAY get the best, they may get the worst, its a tossup.
4. They are healthier. Yes, they are probably no worse off for inhereted disorders than badly bred purebreds. But a well bred puppy from a breeder that does health testing for breed specific problems and knows the health of the dogs in the pedigree? No way.
5. They are a breed. You CANNOT develop a breed if you do not have a standard and never get past an F1 breeding.
It isn't so much the poor unsuspecting buyers as it is the people breeding them. If people wouldn't buy their puppies they wouldn't breed them anymore.

This is an open forum. Everyone and anyone has the same rights to answer questions. Doesn't mean it is a good answer, just an answer.
People speak from their own perspective. So, you will get those that agree and disagree on every issue & in every catagory. I like to read answers as it gives me insight into how other people think. And that, I feel, is valuable. I may not agree with what is being written but, that is how the answerer feels. And they have the right to feel that way. Would I follow their advice? I don't think so but that is me.
There will always be those that are critical of others, no matter what the others are doing. It is just the way that it is. We live in a world where everyone has the right to their opinion. What you do with their opinion, is up to you.
And although DOGS is my favorite catagory, it is just becoming a soapbox. There are lots of great dogs out there & everyone has the right to have the dog that they want. If they are responsible dog owners, who cares? Aren't there bigger issues in the world than what breed of dog a person wants?

I have nothing against mixed breed dogs. I have owned some wonderful mutts over the years. People just need to realize that they are mixed breeds, and not a new breed. So called breeders of these dogs should not charge hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for mutts just because they call them a new breed. I am in no way trying to insult people who want these dogs as pets, just trying to educate them on what kind of dogs they are getting. I could breed a Chihuahua and a min pin and call it a chia pin or something like that and ask $1,000. for this wonderful new breed, but it would still be a mutt.

I love mutts.. if I were going to get a pet I would adopt a mutt
HOWEVER it is UNETHICAL to intentionally cross two dogs and produce a mutt, give it a fancy name like "golden doodle" and then sell it for outragous prices!!
this is a SCAM
if either parent were good quality they would be breeding PUREBREDS not mutts.. so people are buying inferior bred dogs from unreputable breeders and are falling for a gimmick
I do give advice, and my advice is ALWAYS - either adopt a mutt or get a purebred from a reputable breeder - NEVER buy from a pet store and NEVER pay for an unvaccinated - unvet checked dog/puppy
whoever said "genetic mutation" is wrong.. since a mutation is a natural occurance.. not the result of cross breeding...

I think that many people (me included) just get frustrated when people buy designer dogs because there is no good reason for doing so. Here's why I think the new trend in designer dogs is wrong.
First: With pure breeds, recognized by the CKC or AKC, temperament is an important part of their breeding - you know what you're getting. Also, reputable breeders are careful who they sell to and require that the dog be spayed or neutered if it is not going to be bred or shown. So, if you are not a breeder and do not plan to show the dog why would you pay the high price for a pure-bred.
Second: As others have said, designer breeds (mixed breeds) are just mutts with fancy names. Reputable breeders do not mix breeds. Mixed breeds usually come from backyard breeders or puppy mills. You don't know what kind of temperament or health problems you're going to get. Do you really want to support puppy mills or backyard breeders who don't care what they get or who they sell to as long as they get their money?
Third and most important: There are so many homeless dogs in shelters including abandoned puppies from puppy mills and backyard breeders. Many, if not most, of these dogs are just as loyal and smart as any designer dog. If you just want a loving and loyal dog, why not adopt one that needs a home and that may be euthanized if not adopted? Buying designer dogs just encourages more of these to be bred and ensures that more homeless dogs are put to sleep. Just check out Petfinder and see how many dogs need homes.

I feel the same way. It makes me so upset when they start ruining a perfectly good breed just becuase they get bored. There are way too many mixed dogs and cats without homes and in shelters becuase they don't turn out the way the breeders wanted them to. I say we put the breeders doing this in a rescue or animal shelter

Mixed breeds are only see that way because they are new. All breeds were once just a mix of two or more breeds bred to do something. The famous Golden Retriever was just a mix of a water rescue dog and a fowl hunting dog. I think it's ignorant. In 200 years they'll be AKC recognized, if the breeders do it right.

I have never even considered putting down a "mix" or "mutt" dog. Personally I find them to be the best, smartest dogs around! I would LOVE to own a Teacup Yorkie!!!!!! Unfortunately people tend to think of animals for their potential resale value, or their offspring's resale value, and I don't think those people have pets for the right reasons. I want a pet to love not to sell!

I don't criticize people who want cockapoo's, or poogle's, or any breed that they want. The people that I criticize is the ones who are breeding them, and selling MUTTS at pure breed rates. There are enough unwanted animals in the world without backyard breeders.
