For those who claim Jesus authorized self-defense, soldiers, etc violence against others in any form, doesn't that make all those Christians thrown to lions idiots? They should have defended themselves, formed militias, etc? Better than being thrown to lions?

Why?
The choice was to say Caesar is God, or die.
And why take it out on those who don't know what they are doing?

A man who wants to kill you for fun know why he is doing it, one that will kill you for what you have also knows.
But one that does not know, a fool, you do not harm unless it is to teach.

To not know there is a Real God, and to want to kill you because you do not worship a rock or stick, is a fool, harm him not.

circumstances change, the sins proceed to be an analogous. We not decrease the hand off the thief or decrease the penis from the rapist or throw Christian's to the lions for not making sacrifice. The sins are all an analogous. Christian's are sure to serve their King, or for that reason, their President. If the leaders reason for strive against be unjust then the sin isn't on the combating Christian's fingers yet upon the man who despatched them to strive against. To be martyred for the early church turned right into a staggering honor, at present in spite of the reality that i imagine i might want to attempt to circumvent being thrown to the lions and make a sacrifice to the Roman Gods. in spite of everything, Peter denied understanding Christ 3 circumstances and something of the disciples ran away.

Given that the largest army in the world at the time were the people tossing them in, and the number of people whe COULD have fought back was less than what would have been required to stage a coup, no - they were outnumbered, under armed, untrained and unable to even GET weapons.

Farming impliments and knives were pretty well it. Contrary to popular misconception, swords and spears with metal heads were hard to come by untill the later 1500's when better manufacturing techniques came about. The time to make a single sword could be several days.

What were they supposed to arm themselves with?

They were not idiots. Those were different times. Christians were thrown to the lions for the entertainment of pagan rulers and people, not because the Christian chose to be lion fodder. Those Christians were extremely courageous in not renouncing their Faith under threat of death.

In more recent times, the Nineteen-hundreds to the present time, Christians have been thrown into pits, doused with gasoline and told they will be burned alive if they don't renounce their beliefs. Again, these Christians did not choose to find themselves there. I am in awe of those martyrs who did not renounce their Faith.

In 1926, the Government of Mexico outlawed Religion. In one afternoon in Mexico City, 45,000 Catholics (Christians) were executed merely for not renouncing their Christian beliefs. I know of one man who witnessed a little boy being shot like a dog in the street for not renouncing Jesus. Were these people idiots? No, they were men and women of Faith who faced the most severe of trials courageously and triumphantly. The Catholic Church has a name for those like this. It is not idiot. It is: "Martyr and Saint." In laymen's language, "ordinary people who lived and died in God's friendship."

I applaud them.

H

P. S. During the persecution of the Church in Mexico, those Catholic Christians who took up arms against their government came to be known as: "Cristeros." ¡VIVA CRISTO REY! LONG LIVE CHRIST THE KING!

What is your point? This were poor people against the mighty Roman Empire. So you are saying it is betterto die at the hands of the Roman army than the lions. Is that right? Does that make you an idiot?

Wow militias, that would have been really effective. A group of some 100 scrawny people with rocks going up against a well trained army of thousands. Hmmm, wonder who would win....

They died because they refused to deny that Jesus Christ was their savior. In order to live, they had to profess that Jesus was not the savior. So they were neither defending nor not defending themselves. They opted for death over blasphemy. They opted for death rather than deny their Savior.

These were the terms.

John 18:36
Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."

The people (of many cultures) that were used in such entertainments were not only starved, tortured, and half dillussional because of those facts...many had the knowing that we do not die, and in their hopeless states looked forward to going Home & leaving their lifetimes here.

Yes.

But even more basic than that. If someone or something is attacking you the "intelligent" thing for a person to do is either defend themselves, or get the f*ck out of there.
