I think that's the Federal Identification number that companies are assigned. When filling out your taxes it identifies the company you work for and probably tax status and such. Probably an easy way to see if your income reporting matches the payroll reported by the company.

FID stands for Federal Identification Number. I like to think of it as being the employer's social security (identifying number). Basically in a business, the emplorer pays taxes on the employee's pay. So the government gets money from the business tax on employees and from the employee's via the income tax that comes out of every paycheck you get. I hope this helped ~

A FID is a federal tax identification number also know as an Employer IDentification Number or EIN. Employeers apply for these online through the IRS. This number is necessary in recognizing a business who is required to make withholding and payments on employees. If you apply for it online you will recive a temporary one the they will mail you the actual one in a couple of weeks.

Lauren1980 is closest to being correct. 'FID' of 'Federal Identification Number' is not a legitamate term. An 'EIN' is an Employer Identification # and is required for all businesses that have employees in the US. A 'TIN' of Taxpayer Identification # is for individuals who are not eligable for a nSocial Security # that are required to file a US tax return. This usually applies to foriegn citizens with income that is taxable in the US.
