I mean nowadays, when I was younger it would have taken a lot of courage. Just wondering if it's still the same?

I bet my wife that the first answer would be "why thinking of coming out". Thanks, I won the bet and I will get a special treat tonight!

i turn 35 tomorrow. i came out when i was 21 to my family. to my best friend when i was 17-18. it was very scary. not knowing how people would react.if i would lose any friends, would my family hate me. in some cases for some people that still holds true today. it more torlerated today and people are more open about it then they were years ago but there still that uncertainty as to how they are goiung to be treated and be whom they are going to recieve said treatment.

It's still really hard for alot of people, even though society is a bit more accepting, it's still stereotyped, too many people are still very conservative (you'd have to basically accept the fact that you might never get married, depending on where you are), and for many the hardest is admitting to you immediate family members. Like in my case, let's say I decide to be gay, I could NEVER tell my mother, because she's very christian, very old school, and I know it would break her heart.

I'm sure this revelation is just as difficult now as it was 30 years ago, regardless of societal acceptance. The parents would probably still struggle with it, and friends that did not already know may no longer be around. Every decision in life entails some form of risk.

I think it takes more courage for gay people to go back in the closet which maybe why they don't!

No, it takes stupidity for being gay in the first place.
