I saw a Tori AMos video where she pretends like she is worshipping GOD with snakes and rats. I like the dimensions of her thinking. There was also something on NAtional Geographic I think. It is bizarre I think.

Creeplops is correct. It is a matter of faith, and yes, even Pastors have died. But listen to what happened in Texas.

The snakes used in the ceremony are usually Timber Rattlesnakes that tend to be somewhat docile, although still venomous and extremely dangerous. Some really bad person put in a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake into the mix. Western Diamondbacks, as a rule, are just plain vicious and more venomous than their eastern Timber cousins.

What happened wasn't pretty and one believer died. I have always believed that whoever did that should have been charged with murder.

I haven't seen the video, but there are a couple of religions that use snakes in their worship.

First, there is a Christian sect of pentecostalism called the "Appalcian Snake Handlers" by others. They interpret these words found in the Bible to mean they must handle snakes to prove they are genuine Christians:

Then he said, "Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God's good news to one and all. Whoever believes and is baptized is saved; whoever refuses to believe is damned. "These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues, they will take snakes in their hands, they will drink poison and not be hurt, they will lay hands on the sick and make them well."
(Mar 16:15-18)

Tom Burton, a professor emeritus at East Tennessee State University and author of "Serpent Handling Believers, an authoritative study of the belief," has attended many snake-handling services and studied the practice for over 30 years. Burton says that much of what goes on at such churches would be familiar to other Christians.

They are commonly known as "The Church of God With Signs Following."

Other religions that have been known to handle snakes incude Voodoo, which has a night time ritual that includes someone handling a snake.

To quote:

"One of the most supreme and powerful loas is Damballah-Wedo, the serpent god. He is represented in Voodoo rituals by a snake. The dance with the snake symbolizes the unity between our world and the world beyond. The dancer and the snake become one."

I hope this helps.

SOoooo, God created them, the snakes.

Satan can be anything, He's in PCs, TVs, news... you name it. just because Satan is sneaky like a snake, don't mean snakes are bad. Satan can be any animal, that's one reason why God gave us power over all animals and creeping thing, He was warning us.... snake coming, to put it down, we have that power when we need it. but Adam and Eve miss the point, and they sin.

Yes and it is a pot of crock. They are testing there faith based on one verse in the Bible. Many of them die or are disfigured because of snake bites.I would like to introduce them to a black mamba. They conveniently forget Jesus.

Yeah, the premis is if you have enough faith either the snake wont bite you or if it does you won't die. Guess what? It don't work, they have had several members bit and died, even a paster.
