I was wondering if i need to be in the orchestra to tryout for the orchestra in college. My teacher doesn't know and i really want to major in music.

No, that won't be required but it would be good practice. It'll give you a good feel for what might be expected of you. I've found that playing in an orchestra is very different than doing solos or duets.

well, first of all, you need a better teacher if you're going to major in music. but no, you don't need to be in anything to audition for music schools.

You didn't need to at the college I went to...you just had to try out.
