if it says "dre" (disc read error) your ps2 laser its gone , ps2 has 2 laser readers settings 1 for cd 1 for dvd when the dvd part quits working you wont be able to play dvds and vice versa.
its easy to fix if you are electronics savy if not it will cost you 45 dlls

We have a PS2 and it plays regular DVDs and DVD-R

Is your ps2 old? It's cuz my boyfriend's ps2 use to play dvds and cds but now it's old so it won't play rental dvds and games..

My ps2 won't play certain movies unless I put in a parental lock code....maybe that is the problem/
