The receptionist smells like urine and feet and this odor remains trapped in the fabrics she encounters during the work week. When you approach the reception area on the weekends, the smell is just as unpleasant as if she was here in person.

You could get her a receptionist box so she doesn't pee all over everything, or you could talk to her about her hygeine and as her boss it is perfectly acceptable to do so.

Use Febreeze on the cushions! You won't be dissapointed.

Have the receptionist wipe down her working area with windex before she leaves every night. She can also febreeze the cushions.

Get a can of "oust" air freshner. Spray it 10 seconds and then come back. Put a spider plant in her area. Also, install an air fresher.

Get with hr about this and look up OSHA guidelines on cleanliness. This is a serious matter. Your company hires someone that smells like urine to greet the public? She needs to be bottom lined and replaced or transferred is she doesn't fix herself.

Does she wash her clothes? If she does - does she use detergent?

I would strike up a conversation with her and just come out and ask her what type deoderant she uses. When she tells you, just remark and "say, well it isn't working.
Also place a bottle of "Freebreeze" in your lunch and leave it on her desk. That should kill any odors in the chair, and around the carpet. She could also have "incontinience". Leaking bladder.
But I would suspect that she is just an unkept indidividual. A supervisor would be the next step...

Have you considered firing her? Think what the public thinks when they come in. She could put you out of business. You could try cleaning the fabrics but frankly I would throw them out. If the smell is that bad the furniture is probably ruined. Until you can get rid of this woman use metal chairs without chair pads so at least you can wash them.

Is she sick? Do you have anyone that can talk to her about this?

Febreeze works. Let her have a candle warmer at her desk and get Gold Canyon Candles - they smell great!! They will hide it....

BUT - you really need the problem to go away. If you have clients that come in - you need her to change or to get a new receptionist.

You report it to the HR department and they will need to speak with her about the complaint and if she don't take a bath she needs to be fired. A receptionist meets the customers and a smell of body order could lose sales. First impressions do count.

Febreeze should do the trick. Get the spray bottle used for clothes washing, not room freshener. Or buy the kind made for freshening cars.

Sprinkle baking soda around, let it settle in for awhile, then vacuum. And get a new receptionist.
