This is an interesting question, but it usually depends more upon the availability of inexpensive wine. Personally I love hunting for bargains in wine; how much difficulty would it be to have a great bottle if price were no object?
Hence I located a site online that has some interesting inexpensive wines available in the UK. Lately I have had the best luck with Spanish or Portuguese wines in this price range, but this list has some interesting French and Italian wines, not to say that Chilean gem. In this price area, I stay away from the Aussie Shiraz, as most of them are what we call fruit bombs. If you like that style, more power to you, but I find them overpowering and nondescript after a few sips.
Hope this helps!

In my judgement the red wines under the J.W. Morris label, but you have to fly to the USA to get them. Morris
is a private label of Trader Joe's stores. These wines sell for about $ 3US (a little less than £ 2) in California and
a dollar higher at TJ stores in the east coast states where TJ can legally sell wine, and also in Illinois.

check it out it really is worth the $6.00 (usually under on sale)
for the liter size.
