I just got my braces a couple of week so that may be why but all of a sudden my teeth r really sensitive! Everytime I drink something cold I get these shooting pains in 1 or 2 of my teeth. They last 4 about 20-30 seconds sometimes!! I've heard that happens 2 some people say that's what happens when they have 2 have a root canal=(

Well, it may be because of the braces. I've worked for a dentist and this is not an uncommon complaint. Are your braces metal or the plastic kind as well? Some people do have sensitivity to the metal conducting the cold or the hot of the beverage/food you are about to eat.

Perhaps you should try a different toothpaste, such as Sensodyne or Crest Sensitivity. That will definitely help with those shooting pains!

Good luck!

I noticed a lot of people have recommended Sensodyne or other sensitive teeth toothpastes, but I might also recommend using a soft bristle toothbrush and brushing circularly and away from the gumline. Don't scrub your teeth or use hard bristles, because it can wear away the enamel. It is probably also that the braces are contributing to the sensitivity, and that part can't be helped. It is something you have to get used to (I wore them for 3+ years and a retainer for several more, so I remember the agonies).

not necessarily. a root canal will fix certain problems but your sensitivity might be caused by tiny cracks in your teeth that move when you bite. Also your gums may have deep pockets that allow hot and cold to come in contact with the nerves in your teeth

my teeth weren't sensitive when i got braces, the most you can do is brush with sensodyne toothpaste. and dont worry the sensitivity will go away as soon as you're used to the braces..like a week.

Go to the dentist pronto. In the mean time you could try using sensadine toothpaste. Ambasol is a pain killer that you rub onto your teeth to numb up just your teeth. Go to your dentist or orthodontist because something could be wrong and its better to be safe than sorry

Dentist baby, dentist. You probably have a cavity or just sensitive teeth, try sensodyne if you're afraid of the dentist

I use Sensodyne tooth paste, I have for years and it really works. You need to brush a coouple of times a day with or more. I cost more, but the price difference is worth it.

my teeth are sensitive, also.my dentist suggested using sensodyne toothpaste and it really helps.do not use toothpastes with peroxide in them because it opens up the tooth enamel and will cause more pain.good luck!
