The Shepherd's been! pie
Technically if it has baked beans in, it's not a shepherds pie! But if you enjoy it what does it matter.
I only learnt this quite recently, shepherd's pie is made with lamb, cottage pie is made with beef.
An alternative is Dragon pie - with all red/orange things in the bottom ;- red kidney beans, carrots, red peppers, tomatoes, chili, baked beans? etc.

I won't put baked beans in a shepherds pie. I would
eat it seperately. Shepherds pie is more enjoyed
with a variety of vegetables.

I agree with some above. Serve with the pie, but only on the side. Gives you the option to have some pie on it's own, beans on their own or both during eating. Variety is the spice of life remember!

Wrong! Put them in cottage pie (same thing made with beef) because beef and tomato go ok together. But baked beans and lamb is just wrong. Unless you're students, in which case its probably the main ingrediant after potato and cheese.

Personally, I wouldn't put baked beans in a shepards pie, but it's all a matter of taste...if that is what you crave and desire go right ahead and prepare your shepards pie with the baked beans.
You just might start a trend! §@¿@§

I grew up eating Shepherd's Pie and my mom always made it with hamburger, a can of corn, a can of creamed corn and then mashed potatoes over the top of that. This is still a big family favorite.
