Hinduism accepts evolution as a continous process in Nature and looks at the Universe as a continuum. It is different from what Darwin said. It is an evolution from Matter to Life, from Life to Mind, and from Mind to Intelligence; and finally, from Intelligence to Bliss or Ananda. The whole Universe is one and indivisible Consciousness which is the Truth and it unfolds gradually, and not once and for all. This Universal consciousness is called Satchiddananda which means the Truth, the Consciousness and the Bliss merged together. The Knowledge, the Knower and the Known becoming one the Absolute. Could there be a clearer concept of monotheism, but alas, the western scholars were attributing polytheism to Hinduism.

Evolution is accepted by most religions and even accepted by many of the Christian faith. There is really nothing in the Torah, the Bible, the Qu'ran and certainly nothing in any of the writings of other religions that precludes evolution. In the Bible, the time God spends creating animals can be seen as the time for evolution. It is only a literal view of the Bible without giving those who wrote the respect to see them as storytellers and poets that really has trouble accepting evolution. Evolution could very well be the first creation of the Creator. Someone had to kick-start the thing.
Evolution is not a religious belief and does not need to interfere with the mystery and wonder of the universe. To know that a heart circulates blood does not destroy its beauty and wonder, in fact, knowing how important and strong a tiny bundle of fibrous protein is, makes it even more special and awesome. Science has always made me even more impressed with the universe, not less.

I agree with an earlier respondant who said that atheism is not a religion. I disagree with another earlier respondant who said that if you believe it, it must be your religion. I believe that I'm going to work tomorrow, but believing that I'm going to work isn't my religion.
About the question, it isn't really possible to accept evolution. You can deny it, but that would be like denying gravity. What you choose to believe or not has no effect on scientific reality.
If you're in doubt about evolutionary theories, try working out at a gym for a few months. You'll see the ability of an organism to change and adapt to its environment first hand. Multiply that by 5 billion years and you understand evolution.

Well, atheism obviously isn't a religion. Catholicism accepts evolution, as does Buddhism.
Later: Patti, you're mistaken. Catholicism does accept evolution. See my source.

Catholic Christians can choose whether or not they want to accept the theory of evolution. We interpret the bible contextually, so it is up to the individual to decide whether they believe that Genesis is figurative or literal. Personally, I accept the theory of evolution, and I know that many Catholics also do.

I'm pretty sure even the last pope supported evolution and did not deny that evolution was true.

Astonishingly, yes. Non-ultra-conservative Christian churches do, the RCC, liberal Islam, Buddhism, and others. Only the fanatical creationists are the problem...and that's only because they are willfully ignorant and loudly proud of the fact.

I do not believe any Christian religions accept evolution. One answer you have says that Catholics accept evolution. This is wrong. I have been a Catholic all of my life.

The Bible doesn't state we didn't evolve, so I would think that evolution could fit w/ the Biblical 7 day creation>
