We are having a HUGE debate. My boyfriend says Best Foods/Hellman's is Mayonnaise and my friend says Miracle Whip is Mayonnaise.
Obviously, this is an important question. Please help.

To me and my family, we consider Best Foods/ Hellman's is Mayonnaise, and Miracle Whip as a product like Maynonnaise,because it's better in fats, calories and such.
Hope you get the argument solved!

No, I do not consider Miracle Whip to be mayonnaise, but I suppose it depends on your definition of the word "mayonnaise".
If, to you, "mayonnaise" means "something white that you put on a sandwich", then both Miracle Whip and Best Foods would fall into that category. Perhaps this is why your friend thinks Miracle Whip is mayonnaise.
If, to you, "mayonnaise" means "an emulsion of egg and oil", Miracle Whip does not fall into that category, only Best Foods. I think your boyfriend and I see eye-to-eye on that one.

No, Miracle Whip is not actually mayonnaise. However, you can use it in anything I've ever tried which calls for mayo. Fact is, I like it better. If you look at a jar of each in the grocery store and compare the lists of ingredients and calories and etc., I think you will find Miracle Whip is healthier. I've never done that; I go by flavor.

Technically Miracle Whip is not REAL mayo but personally I think it tastes much better than, say, Hellmans! But yes, I believe Miracle Whip is a "dressing" (weird to say) and Hellmans is mayo. Very important question might I add ;)

Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise, it is used as a salad dressing and tastes all together different that Hellman's Mayonnaise.

Miracle Whip is a salad dressing but people use it on sandwiches. real mayonnaises, like Hellman's, Best Foods and Cain's, are what most people refer to as mayonnaise.

NO WAY! Miracle Whip is definitely not mayonnaise! I love mayonnaise but Miracle Whip is disgusting. It's nothing like mayonnaise.

I like Miracle Whip over Hellman's since Miracle Whip
is more creamier and the flavour is more to my liking.
But I call them both mayonnaise which is a form of
salad dressing.

No, mayonnaise is mayonnaise and Miracle Whip is salad dressing. They are two different things.
If you look in a cookbook that has both mayonnaise and salad dressing listed, and you make both recipes, you will end up with one thing that tastes like Best Foods and one thing that tastes like Miracle Whip, because they are two completely different kinds of sauces/dressings.
