I lnow you don't want shelter info, but yhat is your #1 choice, they will help to get it spayed or neutered, that is why it ended up in a shelter in the first place. Irresponsible pet owners! Otherwise check your local newspaper. There are give aways to a good home all the time, just get it fixed! An older dog ( couple of years, ALREADY housebroke!) that is already fixed is a great option! Good luck, just be a responsible pet owner, they rely on US to fight the over population!

Remember if you get FREE - thats the least of the expense. If you get a puppy you have to have it fixed and that can be costly. If you get a dog from the pound and pay up front, its already fixed for you at half the cost you'll pay your vet.
The best place to find pets is your local animal shelter and don't always be hooked on getting a puppy - remember they can be hard to raise and almost always end up chewing up your most favorite item - couch, chair, shirt, pants, socks, bedding hehe
I've often gotten older dogs around age 2, noone wants them and I know I saved them from being put to sleep. I dont go through the chewing phase and they tend to be more dependent on me and caring as they know the yucky world they came from and the loving world I gave them.

Yes look up animal shelters in your part of town they always have puppies as well as older dogs that are looking for a good home. You can also check on line for dog rescue homes around you

Try www.petfinder.com or your local newspaper
There is probably a shelter near you that has plenty of puppies, but they usually require a fee for spay/neutering. (It usually turns out to be a better deal as a veterinarian would charge more to fix your dog)

Free? Good luck.
You could check your local paper and see if anyone is offering a free animal. Or you could check your local shelter, ASPCA, SPCA, rescue groups, or www.petfinder.com

Pardon the pun, yet you will have dealt with the 'jerking action' greater easily (techniques out of the gutter sir); you may study Joyce's Gnomon in "An come across" and rather bypass away 'em guessing... LOL :D
