Regular personal study of the Bible is very necessary, and we should do this just as diligently as we attend meetings. For example, if you set a certain time aside for studying, maybe only a fifteen- or twenty-minute period at a time, do not let other things interfere with this schedule. This spiritual nourishment fortifies us to cope with daily problems: at work, in the home, and in all aspects of our lives. Furthermore, it helps us to avoid many problems by applying Bible principles and laws with which we have become familiar through our Bible reading. Thus we know how to use the wisdom gleaned from God’s Word. (Prov. 2:10, 11) Bear in mind at all times that there is a single source from which we can procure spiritual strength, and that source is our Creator. Beyond this, we can accomplish nothing without His spirit.

In addition to the spiritual value of the message found in the Bible, there is no doubt that the Bible is one of the most influential books on Western culture. The impact can be found throughout literature, art, popular culture and even science. If you aren't familiar with the Bible, it's difficult to appreciate culture and history in the proper context.

But I wouldn't say it's worth studying more than other primary religious texts. Other books have had similar influences on the culture and history in other areas of the world.

I would say that it’s exactly the opposite. Not only is the Bible not worth studying, it should be banned from publication and circulation. The Bible is destructive.

The Bible is trash.

The Bible is the biggest load of garbage and codswallop ever written by man, and I’m sure it will go down in history as the greatest load of gobbledygook ever to inflict such traumatic mental and physical damage on humanity, but still today, some people sadly believe the Bible to be true. That’s very sad indeed. Very sad.

When people quote various passages from the Bible, for example ...

Mathew 5:29-30 God encouraged self-mutilation.
Isaiah 13:15-18 God allowed women raped and little children slaughtered.
Genesis 6:11-17 and 7:11-24 God is the greatest mass murder in history.

What happens? Religious people pop up from under every stone with the same old garbage. “That was the old Bible, or we’ve changed the meaning, or we’ve changed the context, or the quotes are out of context or or or, excuse after excuse.”

The fact is, they are Bible quotes, and the Bible is full of evil atrocities which religious people continually cover up, yet seem happy to drum into the minds of gullible little children. This is such a shameful disgrace in a civilised world.

If religious people are unable to apply commonsense and logic to develop a simple moral code to live by, then perhaps they could strip out of the Bible the evil, murders, rapes, abuse, and all traumatic references. Granted there will not be a lot left to read, but at least religious people may end up with a decent moral code to follow based on good, and not scare the living daylights out of innocent little children.

Its about finding a relationship with our Creator. Since the Creator wants to have a relationship with us, doesn't it make since that He would give some specific instructions to;
1 recognize Him
2 know right from wrong
3 prove He is Who He says He is.

He describes His nature so we can recognize Him when we meet.
He teaches us how to relate to Him and to each other.
He made a whole bunch of unique predictions hundreds and sometimes thousands of years in advance that are highly detailed in many instances. The predictions are 100% accurate. There were over 700 predictions surrounding Christ's birth, life, death, and resurrection. Some are still coming true today. Including the rebirth of the nation of Israel and its struggles for survival.

The real issue here seems to be you misunderstanding of God.
He is not the hate filled king tyrant. He couldn't allow rebellious people into heaven because heaven would no longer be heaven if we don't submit to His perfect will. The rules He drew up for us aren't for His benefit. He is entirely self sufficient, how can we benefit Him? They are for our benefit so we can get along, and so we don't self destruct.

Great question and one I believe is fundamental to a sound faith:

1) Prophecy: The Bible is 1/3 prophecy. We are talking world changing events so specific, it could only come from God. No other book claims prophetic because if just one part isn't true, the entire deal is bunk.

2) The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, in three different languages, on three different continents, over approximately 1600 years. ... yet it gels together as if written by one author! Why? Because it is!

God is the author.

The most important thing about the Bible is its centrality in culture. We should study it for the same reason we should read Shakespeare and Hemingway and listen to Beethoven...or Greek and Roman mythology.

I think that you'd find if you did study the Bible that you have a misconception about the tenets of Christianity. I don't think that any mainstream Christian denomination teaches that god threatens to punish people, and while I'm not sure of this, I don't think there's Biblical support for that notion either.

BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE BOOK.

I hope you see what I mean by giving proof as it is in the bible. Each person can be given a birth year and a death year for accuracy.

Gehenna, Tophet or the valley of the son of Himnnom does not exist, it was people that used the boiling valley of fire for death and burial or burial and to sacrifice their children to their god 2Chr.28:1-4; Jer.7:31,32; 19:2-5; Mark 9:42-48 [ in Jesus day ];

Matt.10:15; the fire that rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah did not prevent them from being able to repent in the judgement day, as Jesus said they would.

Rev.20:7-10; At end of Jesus 1000 year reign to make all perfect, that which is not perfect is consumed by raining fire, and Satan is cast into the lake of fire.

There is only one thing about the souls that is eternal, it is the spirit of God that is the life of the soul, if the spirit is not with that soul, it is with the owner of that spirit and that is God Num 16:22; Eccl.12:7; Psm.104:29,30; Eze.37:12-14;

If I had to choose one book to last me for the rest of my life, it would be the Holy Bible. It is the only book that offers hope and salvation for all mankind. And God does not threaten us with hell. He tells us it is there, and it is entirely up to us whether we go there or not, but the choices we make in this life. And something else you may not be aware of is that God loves you just as much as the most holy man in the world today or ever was. You are the one that chooses, not God. Have a good day.

It is at least more interesting than the Qur'an. It contains lots of tales of some interest, and can offer some insight into human motivation. If you treat it as the work of fiction that it is, it is of some merit. By contrast, the Qur'an is largely a list of do's and don'ts, with negligible insight into the human condition.

The first part is a good question...

Try looking at it as a work of litterature that has been central to the development of the western world.
