what does a PSA (public service aide) do?

I know they work with the police but what exactly do they do? Are they armed? Are they uniformed? Is the pay similar/less/more? Any info is much appreciated.

PSA's are paid civilian jobs within a police department.

I think 911 dispatchers count as PSA's.

Salary depends on jurisdiction, but most PSA's make $25-35K as starting salary.

They are used for traffic control, taking cold calls (car burglaries,etc), essentially meter maids.
