Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers.
Matthew 7: 21-23

Because those people were not walking in grace. They were walking in delusion and self-will.

If you are going to ask a question, put the entire passage in so that the passage isn't out of context.
It says in verse 21 that not all people who sound religious are really godly. To everyone else they call Him Lord but on the inside they dont believe what they are saying. The Lord knows this and calls them on it. It isn't your works that get you into heaven it is your faith, but you must firmly believe in God.

Jesus said this in Matthews 7: 21-23 because he knows some of us will teach and peach the word to others, but will not live the word in the Bible. Yes, we are saved through grace, but we have to live the life in Jesus to keep that grace. For example if Jesus heals you of something, He wants you to SHOW your healing. Well we have to SHOW the grace of Jesus or God to others so they can see. Your actions will Show the grace of God. That is why Jesus said what He did in Matthews 7:21-23

The only times the Bible refers to "grace being enough" are when it is talking to people who are already Christian and saved i.e. Paul in 2 Cor 12:9 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me"

It is safe to assume that to "enter the Kingdom of heaven" (which is what I think you are asking) it takes more than grace alone, it takes accepting that grace through faith. Eph 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast." Grace is God's gift to us, and faith is our acceptance of that gift.

The verse you quoted mainly refers to big name (or small doesn't really matter) televangelists or self-proclaimed holier-than-thou super Christians who have notches on their belt for how many people they think they "saved" and have kept a track record of how awesome they think they are. They will stand before God saying all the wonderful things they have done but they never had a relationship with God Himself, and instead tok credit for everything themselves.

Anyways hope that helps :D

Cause the writers of your "holy" books had one thing in mind.

Mix lovely and undisputable ideas (like love each other) with rules and regulations meant to control you and therby empower the authors.

For a while there you could officially and truly buy a spot in heaven for earthly cash.

Those who think they know the way to heaven because on old tattered book about a superhero says so, may be in for a bigger surprise then they would ever be ready for.

It is the will of God that we truly accept Jesus in our hearts as our Saviour. I think he is talking about people who do good works (perform miracles) but do not truly accept Jesus.

He speaks of the last days, the days of the Anti-Christ. Many who call them selves christian will follow the anti-Christ. They will call him Christ, and do works in his name.

When the real Christ comes, they will say Lord Lord we did works in your name!

Then Christ will say as he did
Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers.

Great question!

It is because Jesus also said we must "...worship in Spirit and Truth...."

What we need to realize is that God is a someONE not a someTHING. We must honor and worship Him for who He is - in truth and spirit.

Many worship falsely (false religions) and the Bible is clear that this worship is for devils. Scary thought, but it makes sense when you consider that Satan is not a little man in a red suite -- he is beautiful and cunning and comes to man in the form of false religions.

Connect to the notion that even Satan recognizes Christ as the Messiah, and God as the Father.

Just recognizing Him for who He is isn't enough to get you to Heaven.

grace isn't enough!you have to beleive in Jesus, and acccept Him as your Saviour before you can enter Heaven!even if the people are "good" and do "good" things they still have to accept Him as theri Ssaviour or they can't go to Heaven!
