I read about microsofts "my private file", now withdrawn. It seemed like a useful feature. I managed to find a proper file of this and have saved it, before installing, to capture the installer as well. Can i just put this on my ntl web space for others to use, as is, or is there code needed like you see "download now" buttons on websites.

To make a file downloadable, you need to first copy the file up to the directory where your website is located.

Then you create a link to that file just like you would create a link to another website. You can make it say "Donwload Now", add a button as the link or anything you like. When someone clicks that link, since it goes to a file rather than a website, your browser will automatically offer to let them save (download) the file.

There should be a way to add files to your public download site.

Yahoo does it quite nicely with briefcase.
