I like Paint Shop Pro - you can get this from STAPLES.

But check the ratings and reviews at http://www.cnet.com You may discover that people have reviewed many others. The comments might say something like "too simple for me", so that is not necessarilly a bad thing for you.

It depends how much editing you want to do but a good basic editor with lots of useful features and FREE is Irfanview.

It can resize, crop, rotate, alter the brighness and contrast, sharpen, blur, remove red eye and a number of other things. You can't erase or modify certain portions of the picture (such as erasing something from the background or something like that).

It can also create screensavers and slideshows and do the same thing to a number of pictures at once.

If you wanted to do more, Adobe do a number of different types of image editors. PaintShop Pro is another one which is very powerful and I find is easy to use (but I have been using it for many years!).

I see that others have suggested Serif and Picasa. I found Picasa quite good and it helps with organising images, too. It has a clean, easy to understand interface.

I have only used Serif 7 and I didn't like it very much. It didn't seem to be particularly easy to locate the various functions, but they may have changed it considerably for v10.

I am not averse to software that is limited, provided it loads quickly and the functions it has are easy to find and to play with. One very important thing I consider is whether it can undo several actions. Some (Irfanview, for example) will only undo the last action.

Ted is right, Irfanview is one of the best in terms of simplicity for basic editing, and best of all it is completely free, download the plugins that come with it, it gives you some good additional functions like no loss rotations. Can't do really fancy things like paint shop pro, but anything is better than microsoft photo. Has a great batch conversion feature so that you can make the same change to a whole directory if you like (resize, brighten, sharpen, rename etc)

Why dont you try using Microsoft Paintbrush. It has many features. You can also use Microsoft photo editor. These do not have tons of features but basic functions are good enough.
