I think the word you trying to pronounce is "namaste". It a Sikh greeting which means "the divine in me greets the divine in you".

In Islam, we say "as-salaamu-alaikum", which means "peace be with you". The response is "walaikum salaam" which is "and also with you".

The trippy thing is that if someone greets you as a Muslim, you must in turn greet them as a Muslim!...

You're thinking of Namaste which means "The Divine in me recognizes and honors, the Divine in you."
