the chicken could mean all chickens and the certain chicken,as well as the egg.if that means all, then we will never be able to investigate and verify the answer, and if that means the certain ones, then some chickens came before some eggs and some eggs came before some chickens so both of the theories are tenable

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? "The chicken" came first - in the sentence of the question. If the question is phrased differently, the answer is different.

The chicken because God made all animals. Including chickens. And chickens lay eggs and the eggs turn into chickens then the chickens lay eggs then the egg turns into a chicken....OH I can go on ALL day!

Okay. You are probably the millionth person to ask this question. Next time you have something that you believe to be such a "great" question that will invoke many thoughts, search for it, it has probably been posted before. Then, you'll get your answers (assuming you actually cared and were not just looking for the glory of a good question) and you won't have to waste the 5 points.

The answer is the egg.

My father created a chicken and then impregnated it with his magical powers and out popped an egg. He didn't rape the chicken though, like he did my mother.
