Quaker parrots aren't great talkers but they usually learn a few words. It may take time. Males talk more than females so if your bird is female it may not talk. The good news is it won't be noisy and obnoxious either.
Your voice may have a lot to do with it. Birds prefer female voices, the higher the better. The human make voice is too low to attract their interest a lot of times. You may try a training tape, you will notice they are all female voices or just talk in a high pitched voice when training your bird. The bird will mimic the sounds of the environmnet, especially higher ones. Whistles, coughs, laughter and other animal noises often come before words.

I have a quaker. I found her after she fell out of her nest. They fly free in here Florida. I took her to the vet & had her checked & DNA sexed. She was a 3 week old female at the time. I hand fed her and she spent more time in my hands then put up. She even went to work with me. The bonding was awesome. I'm her momma. She's the most happy & doscile bird I've ever owned. She is 5 months old now...but started talking at 3 months. This is certainly not the norm. They usually don't start really talking until they're about a year old or so. I think the fact that my bird started early had mostly to do with the bonding experience I've had with her. When they do start talking...quakers are known to be one of the best talkers of all small parrots (even though they are really considered quaker parakeets...or monk parakeets). Mine already says whatchadoin...hello....cocoa...what... good girl...nite nite, go bed...woof woof. She also calls my dog (schn-schn-schn) and does the fox whisle (woot-woo). Give it time....male or female...I'm sure your quaker will start talking soon.

Quaker parrots, usually dont talk very much. If they do, they have a vocabulary of a few words, and that's it. Plus, the get real mean after about a year maybe two.

my mom has a friend with two parrots and they talk too, but they are about nine ten years old and so it might take time to train your parrot to talk. i mean she is still like a baby. cause my moms friends parrots are kinda old and they go, 1st parrot: "whats your problem?" 2nd parrot: "you!" and they even sing sometimes
so don't get worried cuase just give her a few years and she will be talking after she gets a little older and you train her a bit more

He's probably just shy and being that the most familiar place is his cage, of course that where he wants to be. Give him a few weeks to adjust, He'll come around. Give him lots of love and attention and be sure you handle him a few times a day. Good luck!

Most birds - even Budgies are capable of talking .. even if it's one or two words.. it's still talking.
The comment the other poster made about female voices is right on as well.
Another thing I have noticed with my own parrots (Amazons and a Senegal) is that ALL birds love 'drama' when you speak to them.. CHEER - WHOOP it up when she does something good! It's a fantastic way to get HER excited therefore she will start trying to 'repeat you'. Goooood Morning when you first come out/uncover her cage.. Slow, Clear AND extend it out and make a big thing of it, excited voices. I SWEAR that works. I have had talking Lovies and Male Tiel that could for a long time put my Senegal to shame in the speaking department. So.. remember.. 'interest' your bird in speech by adding flare, drama and excitement, so she gets interested IN speech.
I have a question.. when you adopted your bird... you did so with the CLEAR And only expectation that she would talk? Cuz that's kinda not fair - there are MANY parrots - from African Grey's to Budgies that Will NEVER say a word and usually it's because they just don't think it's that' important. And ANYONE who buys a bird, needs to get - that it IS possible that your bird will not speak.
My Lil story about my Senegal:
I'm an Amazon girl - I LOVE Amazons and currently own 3 (had a 4Th, brought a female INTO the house for Quarantine - of the same species of course- and there went my Baby Blue - he was in love at first sight!!). I think Amazons and their outgoing personalities ROCK! I have never been a Grey lover and therefore that was true of AFRICAN birds period. Most are high strung, and to me.. the best Amazon speaker can keep up with a talented Grey any day of the week. Besides Grey's were 'stoic' compared to an Amazon - so I liked flamboyance and they have that in spades!
Walked into a pet shop that I frequented - never had bought a bird from them and wasn't planning to that day. I often visited this pet store and would just 'come in' to get my hand-feeding fix, because I would get babyparrotitis, and feeding a few times a day once in a while fixes me straight up. I remembered feeding a clutch of Senegal's a long while before this trip and there was one left. He was about 9 months old at the time and again he was African and 'not my type of bird' so to speak. I asked the owner why 'he' was still here and she said she didn't know.. and the BIRD kept flirting with me with his Eyes. What a crack up. I asked if I could hold him and he wouldn't step up for me.. so she came to get him out and he's screaming (b4 her hand was EVEN near him LOL) "OWWWWWWW That hurts!" LOL I held him, and he preened my hair and BOOM my hubby looked at her and said 'ring him up, she's taking him home'.
So I called him Lil Sh!t for about 3 weeks couldn't figure out what to name him.. and all of a sudden he said BEEP BEEP! So we named him Beeper. LOL
Beeper didn't have a very big vocab - especially compared to an Amazon and his Vocab as he's gotten older has become much better.. but in the beginning, he could say BEEP BEEP and I never did here him say "OWWW that Hurts" again - to this day. He's 6 now and quite a hoot! And I can tell you that all the time that he didn't have much to say, THAT BIRD said more to me with his eyes, and his noises and sounds (that Africans are known for) than my Amazons ever did about his emotions and flirting etc..
Moral of the story? I am a converted person - my dislike for Africans is not there anymore. I still wouldn't own a Grey, but I have had at least 2 friends I have talked into Sennies as a bird, directly because of their enjoyment of Beeper. I believe that even birds that don't talk or even those that don't talk well, have much more to say than many of the parrots that do, if you watch their body language and their style. Really now, when I approach Beeper's cage and say "Do you wanna come to Mama?" He doesn't answer with Come're or Wanna come out --like my Amazons do...... he Nods his head YES! And when he got asked one day if he wanted to 'go to Dad' he shook his head NO and we all about peed. So I'm here to tell you, my Amazons are great, fun and entertaining but Beeper is my Lil big man and you'd have to pry that Lil one OUT OF MY Hands because he's just that special. Appreciate your birds for THEIR own talents - not someone Else's...... and talking.. yep I admit it, when I got my first bird, I wanted a cool bird that would talk. He did - I got lucky.. but I realize NOW that if NONE of them talked, I'd be disappointed I guess, but I wouldn't ever give a one of them up! :)
I hope all of you who don't own birds get something from this story...... cuz it's true and the Beep Beep Man is in his cage right now, saying BEEP BEEP! And Farting - (remember that noise thing.. it's an African thing LOL) to make me laugh.. ;)

They will talk although they are not great talkers, you just have to work with her everyday, start with easy words, repeat them as many times a day as you can, she'll start to say them...Good Luck!!
