its exaclty why you said...thats the way the bible was written but if you can accept that it was written by sexist men can you also accept that the message has been changed by the same or other men later to suit their own purpose and it's hard to tell how much if any of the original message is still left...or if it wasn't just a book created by those vile men to control the population with the fear of eternal fire?

You said it, because in the bible He is referred to as a Father. I agree with you. I have always thought that there had to be a female supreme being (for lack of a better term)up there telling him what to do. Just like down here. The bible absolutely was written by sexist MEN of the time. And translated and re-translated by more sexist men. A fact that all of us humans should consider before we use the bible as justification for intolerance and bigotry.

if your gonna believe the bible the whole thing. God is a guy because Jesus is God and Jesus is a dude. the bible was not written by sexist men but men of God. God don't make mistakes. and men were put on this earth to rule and not to be ruled by women.

I have no idea if God really is a he, but I assume that since God created Adam first,God created him in his image.Maybe God is neither female or male though. I always think of God with long white hair and a long white flowing beard with a long flowing gown. Kind of like a mystical wizard. I'm sure he is much more awesome then that though.P.S. The person above me is right, the bible does refer to God as our father.

I agree with what you wrote. I believe God is not a he or a she, I think God is a higher explanation. It is so hard to describe but God is everything that is mighty powerful. I don't know what I am saying but I am not saying God is a male or female. Yes, the Bible has been altered so many times and there is proof for that.

God is not a "He", nor is He a "She".
Gender is for animals, and the only purpose is to reproduce. Since God does not reproduce, He has no need for gender or for the corresponding genitalia.
The Bible refers to God as "He" because those who wrote the Bible had to use the masculine pronoun in order to give Him the proper respect. "She" would not have been revered the way God deserves to be. It can be called a commentary on gender inequality in the times in which they lived; but it is not an attempt to "beat women down" or other such feminist drivel.

It used to be the Goddess (or a combination of both male and female gods) created the earth, but the makers of Christianity have really gone out of their way to stamp that out. I think they felt they were getting the short end of the stick, power-wise maybe. Or maybe they realized the power that one could weild when one uses people's religious beliefs to manipulate society
I think it is also natural to think of a father figure creating structure, rules and giving out rewards that are earned, which is largely how christianity interprets it. When you think of god as a nurturer who can't help but give her children every single thing they ask for and is eternally forgiving, that is when you can start to imagine her as female.
Peace!
PS - I just have to say to all our friends who think that Jesus is God, I think you have a it a bit wrong. Jesus is the son of God - not God himself according to Christianity. Or you could say that Jesus said we are all children of God and interpret that to mean that Jesus was god through heredity - but then you would need to apply that to every human on the planet. To say that God is male because Jesus was is silly. That's like saying I have daughters because I am female.

Well, in the English language, if a gender is not known for sure, the correct terms to use are male (he, him). Also, as stated in another answer, God had the child with Mary, which inclines He is male.

Because the English language has really no word for neutral gender other than "it". If we went around calling God "It" all the I.T. guys who fix everything would take it somewhere unhealthy and then they'd be even more annoying.

Because if He did get married to Mary Magolin I'm not sure how to spell it but I don't think if He was a girl then He would get married to a lady. Hey think about it, He wanted men and women to get married so that's what I think.
