Either one sucks. I suggest the Nikon D70s. it is a great multifunction camera that has all the bells and whistles of the pro series. You'll love it.

When you have the choice between Canon and Fuji in the low budget market, then side with Canon. I personally think it is a waste of money to buy those cameras.
The EOS 5 is the minimum model I'd give money for. The Canon lenses are indeed good, but if you want to treat yourself decide for Leica R9, Hasselblad or Rollei 6008 series. They are considerably priced and the quality you are able to derive from those cameras are beyond doubt and discussion.

My wife bought a Fuji S9000 to replace her Fuji S602. The S9000 really sucks! It doesn't focus well and the noise reduction is so extreme that the photos look blotchy. Stay away from it. She sold it on Ebay and kept her S602.

I think you should check out the brand new Panasonic DMC-FZ50 10.1MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. It costs a little more, but well worth it.
It's a little larger and has a fixed lens (not retracting). The zoom control is a ring on the lens barrel which I really, really like and the manual focus ring is also on the lens barrel for when you wnat to manual focus, and it's much easier to use than most prosumer cameras.

Its absolutely difficult to say which camera is better. It all depends on the buyer's requirements and specifications change accordingly. If your requirement is only to take photos at home for a party or when you are on a tour, it is suggested to buy a digital camera of 4 to 7 Mega Pixels. Most of the cameras available are of 3x optical zoom and 10 or 12x digital zoom. One uses the optical zoom to take photos of distant objects and such photos can be viewed in close up using digital zoom. It is always better to buy a camera of a well known camera company. It is also adviced to visit camera review sites on the net to know more about digital cameras.

I believe Canon has a better reputation. Seems like very time I see a stunning photo, it is taken with Canon.

BTW I purchased both a high end Canon printer and scanner from Amazon. Their prices were best on both, no shipping and returns there are really easy.

I purchased two Nikon cameras from Beachcamera.com and they also are really good about delievery and returns.

the canon is equivalent 36mm-400mm zoom lens, not as much wide angle but able to zoom in on really far shots. fugi is 28mm -300 equivalent. more wide angle but little less telephoto. you don't really need 9 megapixels...6 will make 11X14 prints and even bigger look great. i think the fugi is the better, even though i prefer canon usually. unless you want to shoot sports from a distance or birds and wildlife, 300mm telephoto is enough, and the extra wide angle of 28mm makes a big difference in everyday shooting (believe me). the fugi has manual override focus if you want, which is helpful, plus it can be set to 1600 iso for low light...the canon only goes to 800 iso. plus it has tilt screen and really fast reset and no shutter lag. canon is great but in this case i'd go for the fugi.
