To be honest the question is vague...
The worst war the US has ever been involved in was the American Civil War, with 364,511 Union Soldiers killed and an estimated 133,821 Confederate Soldiers. How many American Civilians killed??? no clue...
But if your talking about who has had the most casualties of any war?
According to Wikipedia the numbers for WW II are staggering... US losses were a mere 418,500 (includes 11,200 civilians killed)
But through out the entire conflict and the world (including the holocaust) 62,536,700 people were killed
Now... one of my favorite battles of all time The Battle of Thermopylae... 7000 Greeks defending the pass at Thermopylae held a Persian Army of somewhere between 200,000 and a little over 2 million (depending on what historical accounting you look at). At the end of seven days of fighting the Greeks lost only approximately 1,500. According some sources the Persians lost between 10 and 20 thousand.
If your comparing numbers for an army of 200,000 to be way-laid by an army of only 7000... Greeks were outnumbered at least 28:1 and as much as 314:1 (again depending on the historical account)... That's a pretty bad beat down...

Iraq is nowhere near...not even in the same league. The death toll for the entire war is still less than some MONTHS for WWII and Viet Nam.
Anyone who was paying attention during history classes during middle school and high school knows that the bloodiest war in American history is the Civil War by far.

The worst war ever is World War II. Horrible Ideologies clashing and the death of so many because of ethnicity and their beliefs. Not to mention the introduction of the atomic bomb that changed the world and always on our mind when attacking another country.

World War II.
Over 50 million people killed, a majority of them civilians. Civilians were intentionally targeted and subject to wide-scale attack by all sides. On the Eastern Front, you had millions of people die in a campaign between one evil totalitarian regime against another evil, totalitarian regime. Large swaths of Europe and Asia were left under Communist domination after the war, fueling the decades-long Cold War and arms race that followed.
That's not to say the war shouldn't have been fought. Allowing Hitler and Tojo free reign to conquer Europe and Asia would have been immeasurably worse. Still, it was the costliest war in history and led to the oppression of millions of people in the years to follow.

How could this possibly be the worse War, maybe you would rather fight in the Roman Wars, or faught against Kubla Kahn?
maybe fought for Alexander?
For me any war that would have required a sword would have to be pretty nasty!
Or using a musket that would be lucky to hit the broadside of a barn unless fired along side 40'000 others and even then, it was the shear volley that hit it's target.

American or just ever? If your talking america I would have to say Vietnam. Civil war was bad but it accomplished something. If your talking about in the history of the world I would have to say the Mongol campaigns. They did some pretty savage things like slaughtering whole cities. Everything even the cats and dogs. If that happened somewhere today the US would be there instead of Iraq. maybe.

I agree with DJ.
I don't know why people are whining about this war being so horrible. War is bad, but this isn't the worst war. Check how many soldiers died in the last wars, and compare them to todays war. You'll see what i mean.
