also does that car have a switch in the lockable glove box to cancel the trunk (boot) so valet cannot get into the trunk with the keyless entry and valet Key? that does not open the glove box or trunk?

there are lots of reasons why this can happen, blown fuse, faulty switch, broken wire, loose connection, broken connection, a bad earth , faulty boot latch, faulty boot latch servo, broken servo to boot latch connecting rod, a dirty connection plate ( the ones between the boot and the boot lid)

i think the lock is seized up, that should blow the fuse on the electrical powered launch besides as make it no longer paintings with the keys. i might agree, some interest with WD-40 or comparable might do the trick.
