It could have something to do with hormones especially if you're on your period. Human females generally have larger lips than males and they tend to get larger and more red when a female is excited as blood rushes into them. The lips on your face do this to mimic the vaginal lips and attract males. This evolution occured when humans began to walk upright and the red rump, similar to many other primates, could no longer be visible as the vagina shifted foward. It's pretty normal from what I understand.

Its amazing how both sexes have the same problem with their genitalia in the morning.... wait a minute, were you talking about your lips on your face? oops! hehe..

If the swelling goes down after a while of being awake it could be an allergic reaction to something....maybe a new soap or lip balm or food you've eaten . maybe too much salt in your diet as well.

Maybe from sleeping on your side or tummy, the fluids in the body gravitate toward a lower area - you are laying down most of the night, right? :) Many people have a puffy face in the a.m. too.

well, luckyone, all the answers above sound like exactly what I would say, allergies will do it, and also if a person gets stressed out, your Lips can actually get full, and it feels tingling too, so I'm say, go to your Doctor, chances are he/she will give you one of the answers here.

Laying on your stomach through out the middle of the night makes things fall into place.

You sleep with your face down. Gravity decreases the venous drainage from your face abd it becomes swollen. I bet your eyes are swollen as well as your lips.

Water retention. Why do you think they call sleep "beauty sleep"? Takes out the sag and wrinkles in your face.
