Miracles are in the eye of the beholder. I think miracles happen when people pray, but they also work toward a solution.
Maybe the loaves and fishes story was like the story of "stone soup", and Jesus had a little help from His followers.
There are many ways Moses and his followers could have escaped from Egypt, according to The Discovery Channel.
The devastation in Africa is mostly man-made, so the solution is probably at least partly man-made. Some of the problem is the way water is being misused there. Better leaders who are less greedy could fix a lot of the trouble.

God is not a magic genie. You don't rub a lamp and get three wishes. The suffering and dying you see in the world is due to the influence of Satan.
The miracles of the Exodus had a purpose - to establish a nation that could bring forth the Messiah. The miracles of Jesus had a purpose - to bear witness that He was indeed the Messiah.
God can intervene in our lives with miracles where He is invited and trusted - but He cannot whole-sale invade entire regions, even though the suffering may be great, due to the laws He established at the foundation of creation; laws of order, not chaos. Satan perverted these laws to try to subvert God's power, thinking - like you - that God would never allow the kind of suffering we see in the world. But God's purposes are greater than saving us from the temporary physical trials of this life. His purpose is to restore us to Himself for eternity in a manner that this suffering will never again be able to happen. God is smarter than us, His reasons are eternal, and while the pain of anyone breaks His Heart, it is nothing compared to the pain that would result from losing that person forever.

I can see where you are coming from(so to speak).Moses(pbuh) did not split the red sea.Moses(pbuh) did none of that. His GOD did all of that for him for moses(pbuh) was not capable of doing such things. His GOD is the greatest. But if most believe jesus is GOD, then it is logicly speaking to say he was the one who split the sea.But that is far from my belief.Because jesus is not the lord GOD of israel(pbuh). In other words, jesus is not the GOD of jacob(pbuh). And his father is isaac(pbuh). And his father is abraham(pbuh). And thier GOD is not jesus.FACT.They are the FATHERs with one GOD.The lord GOD of the grandson of abraham(pbuh). To a true DESCRIPTION of thier GOD.And they dare not take jacob as thier lord.Nor would jacob make any take him as thier lord.FACT.Because that would go against the comandment of thier lord. The world truly is in awry.I have a couple of friends from africa and the way they explain the problem can not be seen through a christian belief. It all has to do with the unseen. And it is the British that wanted to change thier(africans) natural order in the unseen. What they do in the physical is the same thing they do in the unseen. The British actions coincide in the unseen as it does in the seen.So you can imagine how thier world is being destroyed. What they are doing and have been doing for years is trying to eradicate the natives of africa and the British want to colonise africa.(I just thought about it now.It is like a game of chess. You start at south africa and slowly move north to you eventualy reach the other British nations. And maybe that is why america has so much involvement in the middle east. That is the territory between the British nations and what they are conquering through imperialism.Till they eventually rule the entire planet. And maybe that is why they put Israel there instead of in Germany)And they are succeeding.Just as how they did it to the land I walk on now(america) and they succeeded.Famine and aids was all a process to eradicate the people.Africa always goes through droughts, but they are nomads and are used to that. But where can they travel now to find a new natural resource when it is all being depleted and consumed without ration. As for the jesus situation.HE IS NOT GOD.There were millions of people on this planet that claimed to be the divine. The pharoahs of egpyt to krishna in india.Greek GODS.Africa alone has million of Gods. Those that are human and those that are not.PEACE!

The fact that there are millions starving today is not God's fault - there is enough food on the planet for everyone, but man's greed has caused this.
Jesus is part of the God head. Jesus was manifested in the flesh.
God does many miracles today, but most people ignore God, and some disbelieve that He exists, so He cannot work in the lives of such. It is man who causes wars not God.
God came to bring peace, but man's sin is destroying the world.

Jesus doesn't have to fix all these problems. That what he people for. What have you done lately to feed someone in Africa? Probably nothing at all. If you did help feed the poor a war lord would get the food and the money. The problem here isn't with Jesus, the problem is the people. Remember Satan is god of this world at this time.

Well if you get people saying that it wasn't Jesus that parted the sea they're partially right and wrong. Moses was the representative for God in that story. So if you believe that Jesus is God then Jesus did it.
Ok why doesn't he perform those miracles today? Sadly if you follow enough history it seems that Jesus was probably a rabbi who was elevated to god like status due to political or religious reasons/beliefs at the time. We can't be sure and I won't pretend to be.
Jesus for some is a marker for morality and decency in some peoples lives. Without him its hard to cope. So if you wanna believe please go ahead. Just don't start fights over it. That wouldn't be what he stood for in the first place.

Jesus did not part the Red Sea. His father did. And while Jesus did ask his father to multiply the fish and loaves, it was his father who granted him the power.
God does perform miracles today. He performs them through people sometimes. You are welcome to go to Africa and work to help those people.
As a general rule, though, God does not intervene with the weather and with what people do. He does intervene now and then, but mostly he lets us live as we wish. And this natural world, as it is, is just one of those variables that we must live with.
God may be calling you to act. You can sit around and boo-hoo about starving people, or you can go feed them. Jesus wouldn't sit around boo-hooing. Jesus would--if it suited his good purposes--go feed them.
P.S. If you can't afford to go to Africa, there are plenty starving in the U.S. whom you could feed.

Instead of everyone pointing out dennis b mistakes, why not just answer the question? We all know what was written.
That's like ridiculing someone for mis-spelling words because they weren't lucky enough to have the same education as the person criticising.
If the honest, errors provoke critical answers, get over your own ego.

You think miracles only happened a long time ago. NOT TRUE...
Miracles happen every day. I see them and other people see them. I had one happen to me(I was Atheist at the Time). Thank God for showing me the truth before it was to late.
WANT TO SEE SOME MODERN DAY MIRACLES????? Call the 700 Club and ask them to send you The DVD "12 Miracles-Touched by The Hand of God." IT"S FREE" and are modern day miracles.
If you can watch it and then declare that God Doesn't exist. There is no hope for you.

Yes God could. But I believe God still does miracles every day. Nobody said life is perfect on earth. There are problems people face everyday. The short answer is God can still perform miracles but chooses to allow us to face the struggles all humans are dealing with. Nobody knows why he chooses that and nobody will ever know the answer as to why until we (Christians) get to heaven. I'll ask him for you once I get up there.
