(especially if it is charity), why do they say they did it because it is the Christian thing to do?
Does this imply that they would not do these things if it wasn't their duty to Jesus to do it? Does it imply that a Jew, Moslem, Buddhist, etc. would not be charitable?
What is wrong with doing something charitable just because it is the right thing to do for one human from another?
BTW - I'm Christian (Catholic to be exact).

kenzie3d - you missed my point. Why does helping people need to be attached to any religion? Why not say you did it because it was right and it needed to be done?

Thank you all for your great answers but I'm having trouble deciding which one is best. I'm going to let voters decide.

I really don't know. I'm an Agnostic and I give to charity (when I can, I'm usually broke *lol*), donate blood, and try to help people as much as I can. In my openion, the term should be "It was the Human thing to do."

It is considered a way of following the teachings of Christ. Unfortunately, some of this "christian charity" comes with strings of a need to convert or the idea that non-Christians, like myself, don't donate to charities. From my experience it usually comes from those who either mean it in the best sense or do it to simply prove their faith to the general public. Personally, I think charity should be done for its own sake. My coven does it with their name attached only to prove that pagans do donate as well.

I think i have to say -- you're right. doing the right thing doens't need to be justified to any person. a true Christian needn't go about spouting that they did this or that "because they are a Christian". aren't we supposed to walk as Christ did (Mary too for that matter for she was the first & most perfect example of Christianity). we shouldn't have to shout or explain our reasoning -- what's the old song.... and they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, yes they'll know we are Christian's by our love.
so, after the rambling.... it is NOT wrong to do something charitable just because it's in your heart to do so.

You have a valid point. Actually as a Christian we should be doing these things in private. If we do it in front of others we are told we have our reward already.
I try do do my thing anonymously If I am found out and asked I usually reply "It was the right thing to do, or I would want someone to do it for me if the tables were turned"

Because they don't believe good things can come from any other source than the christian god. It frustrates me that people give god all of the glory for things that other humans do for them... it's insulting, as if to say "god did it, you were just a vessel." So we're all god's little meat-puppets i guess.

I guess because some people derive their morals from religion.
Hopefully, most people are raised with the belief that they should be nice to others.

Because the people involved are Christian. I mean a priest wouldn't donate to charity and say it was the sikh thing to do. Think about it.
