there own to be the only truth? In other words, do they not think it is not strange that 99% of believers are raised in a culture of that same belief and and those within all those individual cultures are sooooooooo sure that theirs is THE way. Isnt it all a bit familiar?

That's the point. Being raised in a culture means that you are not able to see the truth, so truth depends on where you are. Your religion, while truth to you, may not be truth to another who knows the origins of all religion. While you are only studying one, others are studying them all to see where and how each one came into being. When these people try to tell what they have found, you will not listen. For example, the Egyptians were known idol worshipers. A religion from that culture is going to be based in the worship of idols. Same for the Moslims, and Catholics and Greeks. If one does some additional reading, and doesn't just believe something someone has told them since birth, one would have more of an understanding to the true origin of one's own self.

People believe their's is the 'only true' religion or sect because they have an unresolved issue of feeling special: and, this is because the religion they were raised in practices child-rearing from the point of view that each child is born in sin and sparing the rod spoils the child. The adults were never given the narcissistic acknowledgement all humans need from 18 months to three years-old.

Humans raised without the healthy and appropriate emotional responses in childhood become emotionally stunted in the age when the healthy responses stopped. This is extremely painful for us (emotional pain being the most painful for us to endure) and the younger the "emotional stunting" the more subconscious. You will find addicts of all sorts with this condition, and the religious are subconsciously using what is otherwise good and moral teachings as the way to compensate for their lack of healthy emotional acknowledgement - this is especially so of the fundementalists.

It is called being human. The truth is only what we can understand and sense and remember. It takes a great deal of studying and faith to attempt to reach beyond that and many prefer not to.
