We have always noticed the barking dog. But, we have had a houseguest the last 2 weeks. And, she has been saying that the dog's barking woke her up nearly every night. I only know them slightly. We have been neighbors for a year. I don't want to harm their dog. We have a dog but he doesn't bark much. I just wonder a) can't THEY hear the dog barking under their windows all day and night and b) why do they have a dog if they never walk it and the kids never play with it?

Do so in a polite, firm way. No shouting. No name calling. But also, no giggling. No apologizing.

If that doesn't work, then call the animal control (if the dog is barking because of neglect) or the police (if the dog is simply a noise nuisance). If you call the police, you'll have to do so after 11 pm or some other hour when quietness can be best enforced (In the same way that you would call the police for a noisy party after 11 pm. Any sooner and the police probably won't do anything.)

First off, do understand, in case there is any doubt, that you do have the right to peace/quiet. Your right to as much totally overrides their "right" to own a dog.

Second, be prepared--most likely, they will be very defensive as to that they have the dog as a "watchdog" or whatever, and likely they'll believe that this is the end of your right to complaint right there.

Don't fall for any of that, if it happens.

You can ask nicely, tell them that you don't mean to cause trouble or whatever, that you don't want to be one of those neighbors that complains about everything, but that simply enough their dog is creating a noise disturbance that prevents you from being able to enjoy your property, and that whatever they can do to keep their dog quiet would really be great. Don't be argumentive, but also don't accept excuses along the lines of "we can't help what the dog does when we're not here." They are accountable period.

If this solves the problem, great. If not, do not hesitate to call animal control or the police. If this angers them, so what? You have the right to quiet enjoyment of your property, period. If people who enjoy music have to keep it down for the sake of neighbors, why should dog owners have it any differently?

Is this a constant barking or once in a while. If the dog just barks once in a while ignore it.

If it is a prolonged barking session, politely ask them to keep the dog quiet. If the dog still barks after repeated requests, call the cops.

The diplomatic way is to first put a typed anonymous letter on the door or in the mail box. The next step is to report the neighbor to the local authorities if the neighbor will not resolve the issue.

Try one of those dog things that emits a sound only the dog can hear and keep doing it until the dog stops barking might cost 50 bucks but its worth it. The stupid leg humper will cease his barking for NO REASON.

If you don't know your neighbor, it might be a good time to get to know them. If you do know them, ask in a very caring way, if anything is wrong with the dog,ask if they can't hear the constant barking.

just tell them without biting their heads off. be calm about it and let them know that the barking is really affecting you. If they are decent people they will try and take care of the problem. you shouldnt have to take on the responsibility to buy a dog training whistle or take the couple to dinner etc. you do have a right to some peace and quiet. good luck.

Just go over there and say "Hey we need some help with this problem" they will ask what ( if they are good neighbors) and then tell them their dog keeps barking and keeping me awake can you help me with this problem" and let it go from there. If they re not good neighbors then call animal control in your area. Good luck with this problem.

when your neighbor isn't looking, slip the dog some hamburger with tranquilizers inside it. the dog falls asleep for a while. then go to your neighbor and say "hey, is everything OK? your dog finally stopped barking"

Bring some cakes over... than gave it to your neighbour. Before leaving ask if they have a dog... if they reply yes... start telling your neighbour that your having your final exam tomorrow and you really appreciate that if they can keep their dog's barking down... Lastly... say "Thank you" and leave
