I am trying to get started making my kids costumes. I would like something different than the usual witches or princesses. I have five kids and this is what they were last year:
girl 11 (Wendy Witch)
girl 4 (black widow spider)
girl 4 (puppy)
boy 2 (biker boy)
boy who will be 8 mo by Halloween

My husband and I went as Shrek and Fiona

Suggestions for any and all would be appreciated or if you can think of a theme for us. Thank you

Either myself or one of my friends have gone as the following (We made each costume without spending a lot of money as well)

BARBER POLE --

get white long underwear preferably NOT thermal though it will work. Buy wide red tape and wrap around body arms and legs. Use an OLD pair of shoes and spray paint them gold find and old or buy a plastic childs' construction helment and also spray paint it gold. It is a GREAT costume!

Q-Tip

Again, find long blue underwear or a light blue fitted turtle neck sweater and a pair of matching leggings. Take a pair of panty hose and cut off legs, sew up opening where legs were. Glue cotton balls all over as thickly as possible and place on head. Find an OLD pair of shoes (bedroom shoes work great. Not the slippers though) and glue cotton balls as thickly as possible on these and a
pair of socks. If you like, find some blue face paint and color face, hands and anyother skin that might be showing. (Prize Winner!)

Peter Pan

Not as novel, but somewhat unusual. You can find a McCall's pattern. We used felt for the material. It was very inexpensive and looked very authentic!

Out House

Find a LARGE box. Depending on the size of the person of course. Cut hole for head and arms. Cut out a door. Re-attach the door with hinges made from old leather. Use small nuts and bolts to attach with. On the door cut out a Quarter Moon. Draw or paint entire thing to resemble boards. (Very very easy, also a prize winner!)

There are more but I'm having trouble remembering. If I remember more I will edit and add them.

I hope you can use some of these. They were all so much fun.

Please let me know if you do - how they turn out!!!

Oh YEAH! for the baby, you can find an inexpensive one piece PJ and glue lots and lots and lots of cotton balls to it. He can be a (guess what?) a COTTON BALL OF COURSE!!!! Put another PJ on under though. The fabric paint may be stiff and uncomfortable!! Have so much fun!!!

Ask the 2 littler girls and the 2 year old if they want to be Rosanne's kids, and the 11 year old could be her sister Jackie and the baby could be Jackies baby.
girl 11 Jackie
girl 4 darleene
girl 4 Becky
boy 2 D.J
baby turning 8 months Jackie's baby Andy
You and your husband could go as Rosanne and Dan.
If you don't know what I'm talkin about by Rosanne then watch nick at night it's on after the fresh prince of bel-air.

*Your husband could be a doctor, you a nurse and each of the kids could be patients. Each child could have a different ailment.

*You could be Glenda the Good witch, hubby could be either the Cowardly lion, Scarcrow, Tinman, or the Wizard of Oz, and each of the kids could be a munchkin.

*Hubby could be Christopher Robin, you Kanga, Girl 11 Eeyore, Girls 4 Pooh and Tigger, boy 2 Piglet, and baby Roo.

What about going as the incredibles? Just have extra kids and you and your husband be the parents?
