Monocots have their parts in multiples of three. Dicots in multiples of 4 or 5. The problem comes when the 3 ,4, and 5 multiples cross each other. So you need to look at the leaf venation, dicots have a netted venation, while the monocots have parallel venation.

Dicot flowers have parts in multiples of four or five (four, five, ten, etc.). But this character is not always reliable, however, and is not easy to use in some flowers with reduced or numerous parts.
