A mechanical drawing is commonly referred to in industry as a print. This word was derived from the word blue print.

This print give dimensional data and requirement so that the people making that particular part will know how the part is to be made.

Blue prints use to be made by draftperson, by hand, before the introduction of CAD programs. CAD means Computer Aided Drafting. Now, people can design whole planes, buildings etc. in a virtual environment.
