I see a lot of recipes calling for ginger beer. Is it the same as ginger ale?

Ginger beer does not have alcohol. Ginger beer has a stronger flavor then ginger ale.

Actually these names are tossed around so much it's hard to tell which is which but if caled for in a proper recipe, ginger beer is refering to a non-alcoholic ginger beverage. The confusion comes when you go to buy ginger beer and find non-alcoholic "ginger ale", it's the same thing.

I had a ginger beer in Jamaica last month and was disappointed to find out it was not a beer. It had a very distinctive taste and was not like a ginger ale.
