Hi, you know apparently about 80% of the blood that is donated gets thrown out because it doesn't get used in time, there is a time limit to the storage time for blood.
I guess if I had a rare blood type I would donate but I don't, they have plenty of my blood type, so why bother donating my blood just so it can get thrown out?
Health issues related to donating blood. The hospitals manage the procedure well enough to avoid most health issues that might arise, it should be safe.
Health benefits, it drains your body of proteins, fluids, vitamins, minerals, alters your blood pressure, there is more possible detrimental issues rather than positive issues. FOR YOU.
For the recipient, it might save their life, it might be the scumbag down the street, it might be your cousins best friends baby daughter who knows.
I would rather have a system in place where the hospital knows my blood type and if they are urgently in need of my blood they can call me and I'll make myself available rather than give blood every month and have the thoughts niggling in the back of my brain that the blood I'm donating is just being thrown out.

Of-course its good for the body if you are healthy . The lost blood is replaced by fresh blood .I have studied that a gap of at-least three months is required between two successive donations so that the body can regain the lost blood .I haven't got a chance to donate yet as my blood group is not a rare one at all .If i get a chance I will surely donate .

I also donates 1 time and after that.. I feel weak and then I have to take the iron piils that they provided so that I dun feel so week... U cannot donate i think is more than once a mth. It is not a bad thing for ur body cos our body will pump and make new blood from the food we eat. just that I think that u shld donate when u feel healthy and it is for a good cause. I believed that you will undergo some tests to seeif you are fit to donate be4 donating. so just maybe do it once a year or 3 mths once.....

It's ok for the body and it's a very humane act. My father has donated many many times and I've always wanted to donate but I had hep A when I was 6 yo and my blood is unusable :( Besides, right now I'm a bit underweight... Rather unpleasant, really.

Well done! While it does nothing to your body - either good or bad - it is to be noted u help some one.
I have donated 6 times in the last 5 years. I have my name enrolled in the blood donors association and donate when they call for me. Of course, u have to maintain a record for this, as u can't donate blood every month or something like that.
Pls continue with the good job!!!

I've only donated once and it was the worst experience. It was at my school blood drive and I hadn't eaten since breakfast (now around 2). After I gave the blood I got up to leave the bus and basically passed out in the courtyard at school. I had to be picked up and carried into the teachers lounge where I had to wait until I was ok to drive home, I felt like **** the rest of the day.
Lesson to be learned...always eat right before giving blood!

I used to donate all the time and I probably would have donated 5 gallons by now, but they added a restriction about Germany in the 80s, somethng about a mad cow scare, so now they won't let me. Oh well.
But it is good to donate, for you and for others. Keep it up.:)

I've donated blood about 11 times and plasma about 125 times. I didn't notice anything "good for my body" about it.. But it felt good to know I was helping.
