wild caught parrots are not tame and very nervous if you acquire one as young as possible there is a good chance it will tame if you persevere you might be best having its wings clipped until its tame cos once you let it out it wont want to go back to its cage as for feeding just go to your nearest pet store and ask for a good quality parrot mix it is not expensive and all parrots love most kinds of fresh fruit

Are the common green parrots you are speaking of either indian ringnecks or alexandrine parrots by any chance? I own an alex great bird but after I bought birds and have researched on them I really feel bad for keeping a caged bird. They belong in the wild. Now I own a caged bird, I do give him lots of affection, love and care although I feel this is not right to the bird to keep him this way. Please leave the wild birds to be free and live how they are supposed to live.

I have cockatiels and can tell you a few things. First, get their wings snipped and keep them that way. Then they can't fly away, and it doesn't hurt the bird in the slightest.
Secondly, if you get it young (if it's older, you will know its nature when you meet it) you need to HOLD IT every SINGLE DAY. If you leave it in the cage for days, it will hiss at you.
NEVER EVER feed a bird from your hand, it will make them snap at your hand when it's coming at them. NEVER EVER give them a playmate or MIRRORS because they can bond to the friend or even their reflection, and hiss and bite at you.
Lastly, GO FOR IT. There are tons of bird foods and treats at the store. They can also have people foods, just not chocolate and avacado etc. Read up on them. They live a LONG LONG TIME. But birds are the best pets.

I have a parakeet. I hear that they are pretty similar to parrots. {Other than size} If you end up buying this parrot just keep an eye on it. When you take it out, make sure that no windows are opened. Let it fly around once in a while. If it is biting hard and won't stop, out it in it's cage and teach it a lesson.

You should also know that parrot is very noisy. Usually they have a kind of ritual of squacking for ,sometimes, more than an hour everyday. Whether it;s tame or not, it really depends whether it is trained or not. Actually parrot is smart, you can train it to 'speak' , by repeating the words. Tame parrot will not run away, they like to be with human, but very careful it bites and dangerously serious bite. My parrot is not chained and not in cage, he did not run away, but unfortunately I had to give him away to a zoo, because neighbour was complaining on the noise from his squack.

I don't know where you live, but in the U.S. the sale of wild-caught birds is illegal. You will never really tame them either.
My advice is to go to a pet store and ask for suggestions. A good affordable bird to start with is the cockatiel. Pet stores sell hand-raised cockatiels that are already partially tamed. They are friendly and easy to train to sit on your finger or your shoulder or even to fly freely around the room. They will often come and land on your head! Store staff can recommend what to feed. Cockatiels will aslo eat off your plate at dinner time if you permit them! They are entertaining and a lot of fun!

I had a blue-front amazon parrot once. it was really scared when i first got it because like you said, they are caught, and sometimes smuggled into the US, so this bird looked really abused when i first got it. it took quite a while before it would trust me, but each day i would just talk softly to it, try to pet it, though it did bite the crude out of me several times, but eventually, the bird, who I named Sweet Pea, came around and I could hold him, and I even taught him how to talk. You need to have the pet store clip the parrot's wings so it can't fly, because they will and very likely harm themselves. Clipping doesn't hurt them and you can even do it yourself once someone shows you how. The pet store and tell you what to feed them, they like seeds but also fruit, and they like to chew on wood. Good luck and email me if you have anymore questions.

I sell these birds in the UK and I find it very hard to tame a parent reared one, what you need to do is get one as young as possible, maybe six or seven weeks old. Older birds are much more likely to bite as the parents have allready taught it to be afraid of humans. I hve some pictures on my site of how they develope as I hand rear them.
Also advice sheets are on there for you.
Clippng can be done to stop them flying away which is what a wild caught bird will do.
