My mom tells me I should stop. I try, but then I end up picking again. Please don't answer unless you know what makes me so addicted to picking my scabs.

Why do people pick scabs?

Dr.C Partridge, manchester
Because it's something your mother always told you not to do.

Alix, Kitwe zambia
What else can one do with scabs?

Aidan Randle-Conde, Crewe
Ask Kevin Keegan and Howard Wilkinson, they picked them.

Brian Robinson, Brentwood Essex
Because it's preferable to giving in to the likes of Arthur Scargill.

Justin Rigden, Adelaide Australia
They make a tasty snack.

Razors, Newcastle, UK
Picking the scab a few times will lead to a scar. Why do this? Apparently, chicks 'dig' scars. Curiously enough, my chicken pox and acne scars didn't have that effect...

Jawj, Reading
To get scars, yes. chicks dig them, but only if they look good. i knew a girl who liked licking my scars from falling off my bike...

Paulie, London
Scabs are manufactured from pretty much pure vitamin C, which is on reason why you are in so much trouble if you get scurvey. Recycling them makes just as much sense as an animal recycling a placenta. And its just as disgusting.

Pata Nightingale, Reading UK

Could be Obsessive compulsive disorder:
The primary characteristic of Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP) is the repetitive picking at one's own skin to the extent of causing damage. Usually, but not always, the face is the primary location for skin picking.

Sometimes skin-picking is preceded by a high level of tension and a strong "itch" or "urge". Likewise, skin-picking may be followed by a feeling of relief or pleasure. A CSP episode may be a conscious response to anxiety or depression, but is frequently done as an unconscious habit.
The primary treatment modality for CSP depends on the level of awareness the individual has regarding the problem. If the CSP is generally an unconscious habit, the primary treatment is a form of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy called Habit Reversal Training (HRT). HRT is based on the principle that skin-picking is a conditioned response to specific situations and events, and that the individual with CSP is frequently unaware of these triggers. HRT challenges the problem in a two-fold process. First, the individual with CSP learns how to become more consciously aware of situations and events that trigger skin-picking episodes. Second, the individual learns to utilize alternative behaviors in response to these situations and events.

I have eczema so i know how you feel. If it itches and your told not to but i find it helps me so give it a try. Wash in really hot water and then put some cream on to replace the essential oils in your skin, it might Itch for a bit though so just rub more cream in hard rubbing with cream takes care of the Itch and your treating it at the same time. Before you know it no more Itch and your really greasy from all the cream. Good luck hope it helps.

this is just a matter of willpower--we all have the urge to pick a scab--the thing is though that if you pick a scab and it bleeds and the cycle just gets repeated over and over --this is for sure going to leave a scar--thats what keeps me from doing it!

I have the same problem, I think I just want to have no divations on my skin, when I run my hand down my leg, when I come across a scab, I want to get, it, and when I'm done, I run my hand down my leg and its gone I feel better, it doesn't look better but I feel better about it. Sorry, I can't really tell you why, but your not alone

its complusive, i do the same thing. to my arm n face. If u can try to stop do. amazing enough my face is infected at this very moment, it is swollen, taking antibiotics. This is it no more, or at least no more to face. Im sick of it, its unconcious sometimes, others its not. if ur sitting, put the violating hand under your *** that works. Its my left hand that does the damage. probably because the right hand uses the mouse.

I used to do it too. I wanted the 'undesired addition' to my body off it.. I wanted smooth skin.. just remember, picking off scabs can lead to permanant scars.

You have anxiety and your also self conscious about things that are on your skin. This is quite normal behavior.
You need to have more things to do in your life as well. You have alot of free time and time gets bored quickly when your idle.
