Man, that is such crap, you are so much better off without anybody who would seriously use that line on somebody. It's such a cliche, the only reason anybody uses it is because they are too cowardly to tell you the real reason. Even if it were true, if they were a decent human being they would follow it up right away explaining specifically HOW "it is me not you". I'm serious, you're better than this deadbeat, thank your lucky stars they are out of your life and you can move on to bigger and better things!

Yeah, you are right about that. When people say like this, they really think that it's your fault.

But the truth is: "It's not you or me, it's life." This is life. Things have a beginning and an ending. Your life meats the life of another person for a certain period of time, and then that moment is gone. Something new will come. "For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday"

They say it because it's a cop out. An excuse, and a pretty bad one at that. I've never personaly used that one on anybody, or had it used on me, thank God! I've told an ex boyfriend, "It's not me, it's you." before, but it was true. It's terrible to end any relationship without good reason, there are more than just your own feelings involved.

I thought it was a cliche until I found myself forced to use it -- because it was true. They were into me wayyy more than I was into them and I felt it just wasn't fair to them to lead them on.

If I found one violent or particularly concerning, I would tell them it's not you it's me and leave it at that. The last thing you want to do is provide a list of whys to tell a person you have already made your mind up on to end it with. It's just cruel and pointless.

The only words that need to be paid any attention to when being broken-up with are "I want to break up" Everything else is BS and said to make you not feel so bad about being broken up with.

Its to try to make things go easier, no one wants to hurt someones feelings. By doing taking the full blame, you ease it onto the other person, and obviously, if they are breaking up with you, it is their fault that they just aren't into it anymore. You were yourself, so its not your fault they aren't as open minded.

if the person that there are going to break up with is a needy person, they usually will say anything or do anything to keep the relationship going. If you claim it as your fault, the other is likely to let it go instead of dragging it out.

no dought it is confusing. I bet at least half of them who say it don't even know what it means themselves. I guess it may mean they are stuck on stupid and can't see what is in front of there faces and wants to try and find something better.

They're just trying to save face and not make you feel bad. Also so that you will not ask the difficult and embarrassing and emotionally packed question, "Why what's wrong with me? What did I do wrong?, etc etc"
