Please only answer if you *know* this - I'm not looking for opinions, I really want to know.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT), sometimes referred to as Guerilla Cardio, is an exercise strategy that is intended to improve performance with short training sessions. HIIT 'sessions' are becoming increasingly popular among today's athletes as more studies are done about the benefits of this exercise method.

A HIIT session involves a warmup period, several short, maximum-intensity efforts separated by moderate recovery intervals, and a cooldown period. The period of alternating effort and recovery intervals typically lasts a total of 15 minutes.

Studies have shown this method to be more effective at burning fat while maintaining muscle mass compared to long duration, low intensity workouts

No you burn more by running a whole distance and you burn a decent amount running for a short period then taking a break.

No the longer you run the better, but the main key is making sure your heart rate is in the calorie burning zone, and stays there

its because youre forcing your body to do both aerobic and anaerobic exercise at the same time. if you power walk or jog lightly, youre doing aerobic exercise, which works out your heart and lungs, but burns a decent amount of calories. if you run at a fast pace, youre working your leg muscles more and therefore building muscle, which doesnt burn too many calories at first, but helps you burn more calories in general. so if you combine the two, youre getting the maximum amount of calories you can burn, while at the same time working your heart, lungs, and building muscle.

your heart rate need to reach the optimal rate for your age for 30 minutes to be the most efective in wait loss so if you are running for say 5 min and reasting then it wont do the most good but any and all excersize is better than none
