If your dogs aren't using the house as a tolit ( are trained to let you know when they need to go by barking or scratching at the door), then have the vet check them for skin problems/or clogged anal glands,(this goes for cats too). These are a few of the reasons a dog smells bad. You can dry shampoo them with baking soda as well as the carpets to help with odor. Brush pet well after the soda bath and vaccum carpet well after sprinkling it with soda. Get a book on how to train your pet to tell you when they need to go out . Yes they can be trained to tell you or to use the house tolit as well as to flush it.
Now, if you don't own pets and the smell is from someone else's pet....( previous owner of the house).pull up all offending carpet. Have the floor professionally cleaned and de-oderized. Next have the floor sealed. Then you can re-carpet or lay down a wood floor,or whatever else you may wish to do. Hope this helps you out. I have pets and they are house trained.

the dog food you feed will impact smell more than anything...
dont use Febreze.. this stuff is owned by the same company that makes IAMS.. the notorios Proctor and Gamble! YUP that company most famous for cruel animal testing.. stay away from their products
feed your dog a food with YUCCA in it to control odors and avoid feeding any foods from grocery or wal mart as they are so full of fillers that the dog has to eat though so much crap to get nutrition - this is hard on their tummy and produces more poop and more smelly poop too
get a food with CHicken meal, turkey meal, or lamb meal as the first ingredient - NO soy, no wheat, no corn, no by-products (beaks feet feathers) the foods will cost more but your dog will need to eat considerably less....
a dog shouldnt have a bad odor - you may be need to see a vet...
if your dog isnt spayed or neutered that could be a contributing factor

Bathing your dog regularly will cut down on odors. I usually try to bathe mine once a week. Also, make sure your dogs aren't secretly going potty somewhere in the house that you don't know about. They can be tricky about it! If they are, don't let them see you clean it, or else they think they can make a mess and it's no big deal cus you'll clean up after them. Make sure if you find an old spot of urine not to punish them for it. Dogs have bad short-term memory and will not understand what you are correcting them for. Make sure you vacuum and I use a Renuzit Air/Fabric Refresher on my furniture. It sure does work! Regularly wash any bedding that they lay on. They make a special solution called "Natures Miracle" that is specially formulated to remove pet odors from carpet and furniture. Rent/buy a steam cleaner on a regular basis and put the Nature's Miracle in it and clean your carpets and furniture.

Changing the carpet always works wonders. Pet owners will swear their dogs do not 'go' in the house. But after seeing their old carpet backing and padding they realize that they are. If you do get new carpeting buy a odor-eater pad or at least a pad with the plastic spill guard to keep any future accidents from soaking through the new padding. That will make cleaning the new carpet much more effective in the future. Oh, and somebody please tell 'Sunshine' that it is odor, not oder, and she should try spell check if she can reach it from her pedestal.

You mean bad odors? And that your home smells of dogs? Well, my cousin's home does too. Wash them. Check that they haven't sore ears - it can smell terrible. Do not feed them on biscuits and cakes - some of them can smell real bad too. Do not allow your dog to pee in your house - take them out. But PICK UP AFTER THEM - I go running and when I step in excrete I would kill all the dog owners. Moreover - LEASH THEM - it won't help you to get rid of the smell but it will help me when your dog wants to chase after me.

I AGREE with Lead foot!!!!!! Keep the phone away from the dog so he can't make "ORDERS" .... the word is ODER ; meaning noxious smell. to rid your home of noxious oders 1st you must clean the house with a bactieria killer. try bleach. 2nd wash the dogs. (spell check is the best thing on this planet for orders)

Tell your dogs to stop ordering and put the phone out of their reach so they can't call in orders.

Keep covers on anything they sit on, and wash them weekly. Treat the sofa, bed, etc., just as you would a baby. Wash, clean, wash, clean. You must vac everyday. It's just a matter of being clean. I have 2 dogs and no odor, but I sure wash lots of blankets.
