my little boy has just got the hang of potty training, but the problem is we live in the middle of nowhere & each day we have a 20mile round trip to the childminders through open countryside (no facilities). We also enjoy walks. I put him in a nappy at these times but he crys when hes wet & my mum says he'll regress
Please help.

If he is poty trained then there is no point in putting him in a "nappy." you said you were in the middle of nowhere so why not tell him to let you know when he has to pee so you can pull over on the side of the road and let him go. It would allow you to continue with the training; he would learn that he has to hold it in the car too and that he still needs to let you know when he needs to go. As for #2 bring along a little potty for him just in case of emergencys.

OK BOYS ARE THE BEST WHEN POTTY TRAINED ON LONG TRIPS.
My family lived 45 miles from town when I was little. My had 3 boys and the trip was hard sometimes.
THE TRICK. A POP BOTTLE WITH A CAP. Boys love peeing in a bottle and when your done just toss it in the trash. They can use it in the car no mess.
Try my brothers used it til they was about 5 yrs old.

Take a change of clothes in the car with you and put one of those absorbent bed mats on your son's car seat . You will probably find he can get to the childminders O.K . You can get the mats in any supermarket in the nappies aisle that's what I do with my 3 year old if we go on a long journey + lots of toilet breaks.

try taking a potty along with you. you can get some fairly compact ones around that way you can stop pull over and he can go potty. because your mums right he will regress coz he'll be getting mixed signals and get very confused and just resort to using nappies again

If you are worried about regressing...keep a small back pack for him, maybe with his fav. hero in it, keep an extra pair of clothes and some wipes for clean up in it. always have him go b4 u leave the house and if he has an accident, he has his clothes to change into. he will have accidents, can't get around it. But without diapers, he can learn a lot faster.

does your son know when he needs to go? If so take a potty in the car then when he needs to go stop the car and let him to his stuff in the potty. Allow extra time for this. If you put him in nappies he will go backwards Be paitient it takes time

do try taking a potty with u, it is an inconvenience but it will help. do take more than 1change of clothes just incase.
most importantly ask him every so often, not too much but if he needs 2go then take him bhind a bush or tree.
good luck!

Try to make regular stops along the way and limit the amount of liquids he has before the trips....

Make short Loo stops.Am sure by now,you can tell when he is about to go.
Just hope he holds it in (somehow) till your next stop.Reduce fluid intake too.
