First, stop looking at your tonsils. Next try gargling every 30 to 60 minutes with vary warm sale water made by dissolving half a teaspoon of ordinary table salt in 8 ounces of warm water. Sorry I don't think there is a quick fix for them. You actually should see a doctor and consider having them removed. You won't be sorry. Mine have been out since I was 3yrs. old and from what my mom says not a day to soon. The last time mine were swollen the doctor told my mom that some of the swelling would have to go down some before he could do the surgery. She was to call him and he said he'd meet her at the hospital. Well that's been 40 years ago and it seems good to not have them. I can remember always being sick. In the mean time mix you some warm salt water and gargle with that . Good Luck and enjoy your cruise.

They will most likely have to be removed, but in the interim, when I used to get tonsilitis twice a year as a kid, I drank a lot of Vernors gingerale, to ease the pain. In addition ,aspirin for the fever you'll get, and antihistamines, because the problem was usually caused by sinus drainage. Often times tonsilitis is accompanied by an inner ear infection as well, but it all takes about a week to finally clear until the next time.

I used to suffer badly with tonsilitis when I was younger. My mother always told me the warm water and honey, the gargling with salt water, and the dinking plenty of iced water remedies.
i personally (and you might think i am mad) swear by toast. It scrapes all the rubbish off the tonsils, getting rid of whatever it is that has made them swollen.
Hope you feel better and the swelling goes down :)

I gargle hourly with warm salt water, and take zink tablets and a multivitamin daily. If that doesn't work get a hold of an antibiotic it should go away in 2 days. And do not drink milk or eat milk products. It for some reason makes the sore throat worse... I guess all the bacteria in milk or something. But that's what works for me..

Brush your teeth and tongue two to three times a day and use mouth wash regularly. Don't eat products like cheese and don't drink milk, drink plenty of water.

This works for me.

Other than that get them cut out.

See your doctor to get some antibiotics. They don't like taking them out anymore so it's up to an EN&T specialist to make that call. Try gargling warm salt water and drink warm liquids.

Get some ORGANIC vinegar, gargle with it, if you swallow some it's okay. It will balance the PH in your throat. OR try sea salt in warm water, don't drink tap water, use bottled spring water. Mix about 1 teaspoon SEA Salt with 8oz of water. Gargle with it.
