You can drive in the UK on a foreign licence for 12 months from the date of your arrival....after that you cannot drive a vehicle on our roads unless you are accompanied by a full UK licence holder and you are displaying learner plates on the vehicle.....
It is in your own interest to take lessons and obtain a UK licence asap after you arrive here as driving conditions/rules/regulations are probably vastly different than those you are used to.
(that's if you are going to be staying here for more than the year)

For a short period yes, but if you are going to live in the Uk , the answer is no.
I suggest you apply in India for an:
INTERNATIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE
These are valid for one year.
