You are in a perfect place to start fresh with new routines and habits.

When I decided to get fit, the first thing I did was look at an exercise routine. So, now I strength train 3 X's per week for no more than 30 minutes making sure I have two days in a row off.

Every day routine requires me to get on my treadmill or go outside and walk for one hour. I can tell you from my own experience that you probably won't be looking for a cigarette after your workouts. Find other tactics that work for you to.

Next I looked at my diet. I was willing to eat the same thing for breakfast most mornings but for lunch and dinner, I wanted variety. I opted for LeanCuisine meals keeping lunch and dinner at no more than 300 calories. If you're a guy, you'll need more calories than that.

I have an apple or banana in between meals, so I'm eating 5 or 6 small meals every day.

In five weeks, I've lost just over 16 pounds and feeling better than I have in years.

Good luck.

P.S. that's 16 pounds of fat, I've gained 2 pounds of muscle.

Those are two very admirable goals and i wish you lots of luck with them, i myself am trying to give up smoking and continue a weight loss regime at the same time so, to be perfectly honest with you, its going to be a tough road for a while. Sometimes we can expect too much from ourselves, so dont be too hard on yourself if you slip up along the way. Remember, you only fail if you stop trying. Try finding something else to occupy your mind, whether its reading, swimming, whatever. Some people try needlework because it keeps your hands busy and uses a lot of concentration; its not something id be interested in but you have to find your own interests. The doctor can certainly prescribe some form of nicotine replacement, which will help with the inevitable cravings you will experience, and you're much more likely to succeed if you have some medical intervention. Why don't you put all the money you'll save by not buying cigarettes and junk food into a jar, and treat yourself to something special when you reach certain goals, such as losing half a stone. It might be an idea to find someone who will "buddy" you whilst you are doing this, someone in the same boat as you who can offer support and encouragement, and who you can do the same for. Try and imagine the person you will be in 12 months time, a leaner, fitter, healthier, more attractive and more confident you, keep that image in your mind and use it to help you stay focussed. Remember, every journey starts with a small step; i wish you luck x

i was very lucky. i quit may 12, 2005. i had an old pack of cigarettes laying around that was not my regular brand. i made the decision that i would quit when they were gone...and never looked back. the first 2-3 days were a little bad, but i used breathing exercises and walking tog little over the hump. have not had a cigarette since. i smoked 1 and a half packed per day for 35 years.

at the same time i decided to lose weight. i stocked on on Lean Cuisine from stouffers. it really helped. i've lost 45 pounds that have stayed off. i still allow myself ice cream, etc. but i've also switched to having broccoli at night time, sprayed with i can't believe it's not butter.

I stopped two weeks ago and it is hard, but it's worth it.

I got some advice and it seems to work.

Take a few deep breaths every time you want a cigarette. It;s as simple as that. The urge will pass and remember

If you are stressed about something, smoking won't make that something go away.
If you are out on the town you will still have a good time without smoking, and you won't get as bad a hangover.
You won't have to worry about going out in the rain for a smoke.
You won't smell (after you stop for two days you will notice how bad the smell is on others)

Good luck.

To quit smoking, replace the cigarette with a lollipop or gum, or a toothpick maybe (it has the same shape as a cigarette) Dont try to do both at once because if you do one at a time, you can spend time on them, so quit smoking first. Then, once you have quit smoking, eat healthy foods, stay away from junk food, excersize, work out, run, play sports, dont eat too much (portion control is a biggie). By the way, I hope you do well with this. You are making your life so much better by quitting smoking. Not too many smokers will just quit, they try once, and keep smoking, but I hope you quit and make your life healthier. Good luck with the climbing for charity next year =)

As soon as you get out of the bed go pee and brush your teeth. Take your measurements. Measure chest, waist, hips, each arm, each thigh, and butt. Write it down. Next thing is do a work out. Do 30 minutes of anything at all, just move. Go walking or jogging or running or do some crunches and jump rope or jumping jacks, it doesn't matter, just move and breathe deep. It will really help with the morning craving. Shower and get ready for the day. Keep a food journal. Write down everything that passes your lips. If you have 5 grains of rice then put it down in the journal. Leave nothing out. Do that for a few days, you will be amazed at how much you eat. Start paring it down. You got fat one bite at a time, so you have to get thin one bite at a time. Stay positive and soon these behaviors will have you looking and feeling so good you will thank yourself for finally doing it! Remember to take your measurements every month. When you see progress it helps to keep you motivated. Good Luck.

Hi
This simple programme helped me with a lot of weight loss so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Good luck

I think you are asking too much of yourself in one go. Kick the cigs THEN get fit. I don't think your body could handle that much self-denial. You can do both if you really want to and that is the crux of the matter, actually wanting to do these things is imperative, or else you are wasting your time.

Ben Nevis is great by the way. I live near there.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!
