yes you can just make your batter thinner and when it's done lay it in powdered sugar

It's not recommended. Find a recipe for funnel cakes, or use Choux pastry - it's a little thicker, but it's easy to make and you can pipe it into the hot oil instead of using a funnel.

No, if you use pancake batter the same way as funnel cake batter the ingredients will explode and might kill you.

It looks like you may be able to. The oil you use for frying them should quick set the batter into the tubes you want (squeeze it out of a pastry tube). Just make sure the oil is hot enough (I think somewhere around 400 degrees)

most pancakes mixes have a waffle mix recipe,
funnel cake is almost the same thing as waffles
