Wow. Dali and Mark Ryden...they are different from each other as well. Ryden is not really a surrealist like Dali was. I like his work too, some of his stuff is Sick!!

Mark Ryden is a very successful illustrator. You should look at Illustration sites (www.ai-ap.com) because his type of figurative painting has been dead in the fine arts world since the dawn of 'modernism', but has been making a resurgence which I think has been inspired by the Illustration and comics field. A lot of these folks are coming out of California.

You know who you might LOVE??

Camille Rose Garcia - she's AWESOME! Check out her website:

Might I recommend her 'who's afraid of the Peppermint Man' and 'Creepcakes Bakery' series. All of it has a bizarre story, kind of like Ryden's work, but more involved as a comic would be. If you like stuff that's kind of dark and sick, you'll like this.

Well, Dali was a surrealist so you could start by looking at other surrealists, notably Rene Magritte and Max Ernst.

Magritte. You'd probably like Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights". I have this painting in my room by a less well-known artist named Appia; it's called "Enter the holes of memory" (I translated that from the French title).

Kay Sage. Rene Magritte. Yves Tanguy. I think you'll like them all. I'm particularly fond of Sage's work.
