sorry to disappoint u, though contrary to Christianity and Islam, Judaism does not believe in a prophet / saviour in the same way. Judaism is based on the National Revelation of God to all Jews at Mount Sinai. No angel - sorry!
And yes, it believes in investigating for yourself and doing the right thing, rather than just taking a leap of faith

I don't think anything of Thomas Paine, what I do think about is how hurt our Creator Jehovah is when he sees what man does in the name of religion and they expect to have His backing in all that they do.
Man has dominated man to his injury.
Jeremiah 17 verse 9-11
The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it? I Jehovah am searching the heart, examining the kidneys, even to give to each one according to his ways, according to the fruitage of his dealings. As the partridge that has gathered together what it has not laid is the one making riches, but not with justice. At the half of his days he will leave them, and in his finale,he will prove to be senseless.
Yes our creator examines hearts and those who live in opposition to his requirements will be paid the appropriate wage for their error.

I don't give a rats patootie about Mr. Paine. You are quite right that religion is the root of all evil though. Congrats on the breakthrough.

But, I don't think religions start out from hatred, it's just how they end up. They are started , I think, because for some unfathomable reason people are afraid to die.

All Religion's are False.
The TRUTH will set you Free.
If your not getting Free by Believing what your Believing, then It's not The TRUTH.
GOD is TRUTH.
If you have had your Spirit Recreated(Saved) by Believing in JESUS CHRIST as your SAVIOUR, then the Spirit of TRUTH (Holy Spirit) Live's in you now, and you can "go by your Heart(Spirit)" cause The TRUTH is in their with you.
If not, then you'll Probably Fall for a Religion.
Hope this helps.

ALL I can tell you is the truth
GOD JESUS is real in Heaven

you don't even need religion or to go to church to feel the Lord, if your faith is strong, many times I didn't go to church for a long time, but I have faith, and know He's real, many times He came to me, I felt His presence, He also save my live many times over, since I was a young man.
So yes the heart is stronger than religion, God knew each heart first before religion came about..... that's where the communication is.... ur heart.
ALTHO I wouldn't say that all religions are evil.

What people do not realize is the life we live today is a system that stared long ago and is merely a system. As time passes the system is praised and all opposing are crazy.

Thomas Paine in the system would be considered crazy.

Thomas Paine was a great man. Kudos to you for reading him, he's too little known these days. (I'm only slightly familiar with him myself.)

I empathize with your anger toward religion, and I agree with everything you say about it. But I think you may have missed one important characteristic shared by all believers, and once you understand it, you will sympathize much more with them:

They're afraid.

Afraid of death, and of anything unknown. Afraid of being different from their friends and family and neighbors. Afraid to disagree with the leaders who tell them what to think and how to live.

If you and I have freed ourselves of those fears, it is now our duty to help others to free themselves. Name-calling and anger won't help them; but calm, forceful argument may. Good luck.
