Most conservative Bible scholars assume Luke is recording Mary’s genealogy and Matthew is recording Joseph’s. Matthew is following the line of Joseph (Jesus’ legal father), through David’s son Solomon, while Luke is following the line of Mary (Jesus’ blood relative), though David’s son Nathan. There was no Greek word for "son-in-law," and Joseph would have been considered a son of Heli through marrying Heli's daughter Mary. Through either line, Jesus is a descendant of David and therefore eligible to be the Messiah. Tracing a genealogy through the mother’s side is unusual, but so was the virgin birth. Luke’s explanation is that Jesus was the son of Joseph “so it was thought” (Luke 3:23).

Jesus' lineage comes through Mary His mother. There are two lineages given in the Bible. Matthew and Luke, read them very carefully. During this time period a lineage was given through the Man. Even Mary's line would have mentioned Joseph as he was married to Mary and thus her father's son now. Matthew gives the line through Joseph, but, Luke was a Doctor and probably Mary's Doctor. When he heard her story of how she became pregnant he most likely researched her family line and this is the lineage Luke gives.

Both Joseph and Mary descended from the line of David. Mary is more directly associated to David as her lineage traces her root back to Solomon, the son who succeeded David, while Joseph is connected to other of David's sons.

Because both Joseph and Mary come from the line of David.
The lines are given for both.
Besides don't trouble to much with the Scriptures there's more to life.
And the Doctrine "The Bible alone" is wrong.

Look again my friend, there are two genealogies given in the Gospels. One for Mary and one for Joseph-Jesus is covered on both sides of the family. One is for legality, the other is for seed line.

joseph was the line of david
mary was the mother.
Jesus was born perfect so Jesus was not of either Mary or Joseph but from heaven.
Jesus was only born in the line of David not created.

Most bloodlines are through the Father- even though Joseph was not Jesus' real Father- he too was from the line of David.

Wasn't the lineage suppose to come thru Mary? The maternal lineage is what constitutes a Jew.
Who knows who were Jesus's ancestors. This is taken from the Holy Scriptures (your OT), that the Messiah is to come thru this lineage. So, Christians say he is from the lineage of David.

Yap!
See Luke 3:23 up to the last verses. That is the original lineage of godly man. (pure adamite stock)
The Joseph that you referring to is none other than Joseph the patriarch. It is correct.
