I'm sure that during time of war , many people too refuge in churches etc
so the enemy im sure would know where to find people and would have had more need for numbers than respect for the buildings .. i too have seen pictures of churches and gravestones with bullet holes

A church is simply put a building. It is merely a symbol... and it what it stands for that should have meaning not the building itself... although, I still think it pathetic for people to be shooting at churches or burning them down. It is sad... sad... and a sign that society is becomming a bit more destructive.

People who are moved by the Devil to stike out against the work of Jesus here on earth do those things. Don't worry because Jesus said...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

I don't know. There's plenty of churches in Europe (and other places) that have bombing and shrapnel damage.
I guess some people have no respect for Holy places.
